5 YouTube Sites That Will Broaden Your Mind

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Most of us go online for entertainment after spending a lot of time studying and working. Watching movies, chatting, and doing other stuff are not bad ideas, but how about stimulating your brain with some mind-blowing facts? I promise that these YouTube sites won’t only unwind your mind but also surprise you with stunning new things!

1) CrashCourse (https://www.youtube.com/user/crashcourse)

This is where you can learn about many subjects: economics, astronomy, politics, world & US history, anatomy, psychology and chemistry. If you want to try exploring some new fields that you have not studied before, this is where you should start. You can also find out some new points of view about aspects that you are already familiar with.

2) BrainCraft (https://www.youtube.com/user/braincraftvideo)

Are you fascinated by how our brains work? Do you want to learn more about the brain? If yes, then you should check out BrainCraft. This site discusses many facts about our brain and answers many questions related to brain activity: Why do we feel lonely, why are some people so easily fooled, are male and female brains different, etc. My favorite video is “The Power of Sadness in Inside Out” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST97BGCi3-w). It wows me that Inside Out is actually based on psychological facts. And I’m sure other videos will wow you even more!

3) Vsauce (https://www.youtube.com/user/Vsauce/featured)

Vsauce is a scientific channel with nearly 10 million subscribers. Vsauce talks about a variety of fields: math, the universe, animals, and so on. This site also delves into many fascinating topics that we usually think about but often cannot find out decent answers to: Why is yawning contagious, why do we kiss, and many other things. You should definitely spend some time enjoying this channel!

4) Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsXVk37bltHxD1rDPwtNM8Q)

Each video on this site is a vivid animation that demonstrates various facts, ranging from the human immune system to nuclear energy, the universe, and more! Some videos also summarize and discuss many social issues that are going on in the world. I would like to call the videos on this channel “Cartoons for intellectually-driven minds”. They are fun, easy to watch, and very interesting at the same time.

5) Matthew Santoro (https://www.youtube.com/user/MatthewSantoro)

This site provides us with A LOT of awesome facts about many random things, such as illusions, evolution, water, snow, and so on.  Matthew’s sense of humor will make it even more interesting to watch his videos. If you don’t believe me, try watching “10 Optical Illusions That Will MELT YOUR MIND” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izNIN9eu5ck) and you’ll get addicted to this channel right then!

Now, let’s check out these YouTube sites and prepare to be blown away!
