For me, winter inspires feelings of happiness. The weather gets cooler, my wardrobe switches completely over to sweaters, and I’m one step closer to Christmas. For others, I know winter can bring the opposite feeling; as it gets darker sooner, exhaustion seeps into your bones with the cold, and you truly are nearing the end of the year. I can completely understand how overwhelming that can be.

I love winter because it reminds me to slow down. I am often always doing a hundred things at once, but as winter descends upon us, I remember to be present, bundle up, and take things day by day.

If you asked me why winter was my favorite season as a child, I would’ve said it was because of the snow (even though I had rarely seen it living in Texas). Even though most of my Christmases were 90 degrees, just the possibility of a snow day in the winter made me excited for the winter season.

Today, I find my favorite part of winter is the cold; when I arm myself with my wool coat and the biggest scarf known to man, I’m shielded from the cold and any problems I’m having at the given moment. I love the cold because it’s so refreshing and offers moments for quiet reflection.  And then when you’re done with that, you can always bundle up with hot chocolate in front of a good holiday movie and feel the cheer. I hope for those dreading this season that this article might open you up to a different idea of viewing this winter season as not dreary, but a time to be refreshed. I hope the songs listed below will help you embrace the cold and live your rom-com moment.

Commence Ultimate Winter Playlist

“I wait for u” (by Carbon Covvers, Octomber)

This song feels like the perfect winter day with a cool breeze vibe. Play this song when the cold wind is fearlessly slapping you in the face and make sure to look off forlornly into the distance (trust me).

“Love to Keep me Warm” (by Laufey, Dodie)

Who doesn’t love Laufey and Dodie? This is the most perfect song to make you feel as if you’re laying cozy in front of a fire, listening to Christmas hits.

“September” (by Ayoni)

I love this artist. I wish they were more well known because this song is so heartfelt and slow, but also not super sad. It has perfect vibes for a rainy day/snowy day, especially if you’re trying not to think about that ex you can’t get over.

“Baby come home” (by Olivia Dean)

I love everything this artist puts out, but this song is a personal favorite. It will make you feel so cozy but also hopelessly single.

“Ghosting” (by Mother, Mother)

This is a lovely song. The guitar is so soothing, and the lyrics will have you singing along loudly and annoying everyone in the vicinity.

“Powerful Remix” (by Major Lazer, Ellie Goulding, Tarrus Riley, With You, GITCHII)

This song will have you up and dancing and feeling powerful. Trust me, you’ll forget how cold you are outside in the first place.

“Heavy in Your Arms” (by Florence + The Machine )

I don’t know of a difficult situation that Florence’s music hasn’t gotten me out of. This is a favorite that I enjoy and use to fight off the seasonal depression.

“Cool Girl” (by Tove Lo)

Use this song to remind yourself that you are that girl.

“What could have been” ( by Jordan Mackempa)

This is a lovely chill song that would definitely have been at the end of a 90s romcom if it had been released at that time. It is so cheery and brings up my mood every time.

“Easy to Love” ( The Jezabels)

If you’re a Dance Academy fan, you know how devastatingly beautiful this song is. If you know nothing about that show, then get ready for your life to change with this song.

And that’s all I’ve got! I hope this list comforts you this holiday season and, at the bare minimum, broadens your musical tastes to a supreme level. Remember to enjoy the winter; if only as a reminder of how far you’ve come this year.
