It’s finally 2023, and a new year brings new shows and seasons! This year is filled with different TV series premiering or the newest season coming out. For some, it might even be their last season. TV is a great form of escapism, especially when school might feel a bit too much. Here are some shows that I am ready to binge as soon as they drop this year!

  1. “XO, Kitty”

The “To All the Boys” franchise is growing, with its latest addition focusing on Lara Jean Covey’s younger sister, Kitty. This new series, which has already wrapped filming, will most likely be dropping this year. The plot is Kitty moving to South Korea for high school and be reunited with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae, which is a romance that was set up in the third “To All the Boys” film. I’m very excited to see how Kitty navigates her new life in Korea and would love to see a cameo of Lara Jean!

  1. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a series that everyone loved when it dropped last summer. With how popular it became, it’s not surprising that it was renewed. Having wrapped filming, the series will most likely be dropping this year. My guess is that it’ll premiere this summer, and I can’t wait to see what happens next for Belly, especially after how the last season ended.

  1. “Never Have I Ever Season” 4

In the show’s final season, we’ll be seeing Devi and her friends in their senior year. With the ending that season three had, I know I’m not alone in wondering where the love triangle goes from here. But most of all, I’m excited to see how Devi’s character continues to develop and grow. No matter which boy she ends up with, I’m Team Devi and hope that she ends the show in a good place.

  1. “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” Season 4

I’ve gotten very attached to this musical dramedy where theater kids who go to East High put on musicals and have more drama offstage than they do onstage. What makes this new season very exciting is that so many of the OG High School Musical stars are going to be in it! The actors are going to be playing versions of themselves who are back at East High to film a fourth High School Musical movie. It doesn’t get any more meta than that. The nostalgia for the OG actors with the love I have for the new characters has made this a season I can’t wait to watch!

  1. “Freeridge”

This is the spin-off of “On My Block,” which had the iconic characters, Jamal and Abuelita. Taking place in the same town, the series follows a different group of teenagers who find out they’re cursed. Fans of the show are skeptical of this spinoff, especially since Jamal isn’t in it. However, I have hope for it and am interested to see where the story takes us.

  1. “Percy Jackson & the Olympians”

Now, this is a series that is potentially dropping in 2023. I have hope that the show will be released in late 2023 since Walker Scobell, who plays the titular character, estimates that the series will be released either in late 2023 or early 2024. It would be very exciting if it was released sooner. It is based on a book series about a boy who discovers that he is a demigod and goes on adventures with other demigods, all of it leading up to prophecy about him. I first started the series back in middle school, and despite how long it’s been since I’ve read it, I can’t wait to see it come to life on the screen.

These are only some of the many new shows and seasons airing this year. If you haven’t watched them yet or hadn’t thought about starting them when they premiere, I highly recommend giving them a try!
