For the past few months, the news has reported on a wide range of topics. From January to now, the news has broadcasted stories about the Black Lives Matter movement, Coronavirus, Presidential Election, and many other impactful stories. Being a journalism major, I follow the news and everything about it. It’s crazy to think that Kobe Bryant passed away this year, it feels like forever ago with how much happened this year.

In a time like this, journalism is at an all-time high. Reporters are needed all over the world to report on different topics in each country. I decided to become a journalist when I was a junior in high school for the exact reason they’re needed today. I want to be the person the world looks at when in crisis. I want the people to rely upon and trust me during these unpredictable times.

Journalism is such an integral part of history. I consider it to be the first draft of history, we report on it before anything is set in stone. Journalists follow the stories from beginning to end. When the Coronavirus first broke out, reporters followed it from China to here. They reported on the origin or it and who got it. No matter where you were from, you heard about this story. Fast forward to now, reporters are still telling the world about the increase and decrease in cases. The pandemic is a great moment in history, but journalists were the ones writing about it before it got as big as it has.

Black Lives Matter movements have been around for years, but this year the protests have gotten bigger and more impactful (in my opinion). People’s words truly make a difference, and I’m proud to be a part of the generation making a change. Reporters have to tell all sides of the story, even if they don’t agree with one of the sides. I bet it is quite interesting to report on the scene of a big protest. In journalism, you can’t be biased even if you strongly agree with one side of an argument. I think journalists have a hard time during times like these with BLM protests.

The presidential election has been a huge topic in journalism this year and currently is at an all-time high. In almost 2 months, we’ll have elected a president that’ll be with us and shaping the world for the next 4 years. Currently, people are broadcasting presidential candidates and their speeches. They are comparing and contrasting everything being said. Many journalists have to put aside their political opinions and strictly report on the news. Politics is such a touchy subject in the news so journalists have to be careful about what they say.
