To The Girl Who Doesn’t Have Her Sh*t Together

This may just be the third or fourth time I’ve tried to write this piece. What began as an open letter to those who feel like they don’t have their lives together and how to fix it quickly turned into a reflection of my own doubts. I’m not going to waste the space on your phone screen, computer screen, or however you’re reading this and tell you this is how to get your life together. Quite honestly, I’d be lying.

The truth is, we’re never going to be 100% together. There’s no algorithm to find your way there, no articles you can read, and no inspirational quotes to paste on your walls that will magically fill the void left by the fear that our lives aren’t where we want them to be. If you feel like your life isn’t where you want it to be, congrats.

That feeling of uneasiness, fear, and sometimes nausea, means that you’re already on your way there. It means you recognize that you can do so much better. It’s your choice as to whether or not you decide to do something about it. This feeling of being lost won’t define you because it’s part of life. It’s like life’s backhanded compliment to push you to become the person you want to be. The rest is up to you.

Me? I’m just a 21-year-old girl typing away and using this piece as a catharsis for her own doubts. So, listen to me or don’t. But, for so long I woke up feeling lost, like the entire 5’1” of my being was a disappointment. I could barely even look at my reflection because it was a reminder that I didn’t know who I was. For me, it took a long time of doing things I love, talking to extraordinary people, and finding inspiration from the oddest places to find a sense of peace in who I am and who I’m becoming.

So, let go of the fear that your life isn’t where you want it to be and find comfort in knowing that every day is an opportunity to get closer to it.
