5 Reasons Why Seasonal Jobs are Worth it

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

The holiday season is quickly approaching, all while the fall semester is making its way to a close.  With the chapter closing on yet another semester, we find ourselves in the long awaited anticipation for that month long break. As many of us are making our way back home for the holidays we start to think about what activities we can fill our time with. Some of you may question the idea of a seasonal job, but is it really worth it? Below we have provided 5 reasons why it is!

1. Test Drive a New Job/ Field of Interest

The magic behind seasonal jobs is that it offers the opportunity for short-term work experience, without tying you down to a long-term commitment. You will be offered just a taste of working life, most likely in the service industry. Since you are only working for a short amount of time, you will be able to decide whether or not the job/ field of interest is right for you. You never know where an opportunity will take you- you can end up loving it or hating it, but regardless your pockets will be fuller, and you will have added value to your resume.

2. Find Your Next Job

Going off what we had stated previously, this may be a great way to get your foot in the door. If you loved your time at your job then there is always a possibility of extending your welcome into a part time position after the holiday season.

3. Make Extra Money

A seasonal job will provide you with extra money in your wallets, which is perfect for the holiday season. You will have extra money for gifts for your loved ones, possibly receive a discount at your job, and store some money in your savings.

4. Flexible Scheduling

We are all students here so we know how crucial, important, and demanding your schedule can be. Seasonal jobs are perfect for students on winter break, since you’re only working on a short-term commitment. Your boss will work with you, and provide you with shifts that best fit your needs.

5. Connections

Anytime you immerse yourself in a new situation you will meet many new, and interesting people. A seasonal job will allow you to make new friends, and will provide you with multiple references for your next job search.
