The 1970’s as a decade holds true to the fact that they probably had the best music, fashion, and culture. Being born only in the early 2000’s makes me wonder what it must have been like to go rollerskating every weekend or to a disco with my friends as a casual night out. Growing up, I always heard stories about the 70’s being the “best decade,” along with all of the tunes that came with it. I will say, for me personally, that my favorite music came from this infamous and cultured period of time. Here are some of my favorite artists from the 1970’s, and why!

Paul McCartney and Wings

Following one of the most notorious breakups of all times, Paul McCartney, who was previously the lead guitarist and singer for The Beatles, formed this group alongside his wife Linda to make some amazing tunes. Wholesome in lyrics, some of the songs produced by this band will uplift you to a new level. “Silly Love Songs,” and “Band on The Run,” are some of their more popular songs, but still manage to satisfy my need for amazing 70’s music.

Fleetwood Mac

Most commonly known for the white-witch lead singer, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac holds the reigning title of my number one favorite seventies band. Their music is entrancing, and makes me feel like I entered a world of magic and soul. My personal favorite songs from this band would be, “Songbird,” “Say You Love Me,” and the most classic, “Rhiannon.”

Eagles

The Eagles are going down in history for many reasons. If you haven’t heard of them by now, the best way to describe how good their music is would be to state the fact that they have had six number one albums, five number one singles and six Grammy awards. Perfect for a long drive in the summer would be, “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” or “Take it Easy,” two of their greatest hits!

Queen

Queen is a classic seventies band, famous for their unique sound and aesthetics. The lead singer, Freddie Mercury, had a wide vocal range that captured audiences from all over the world. His legacy still lasts today for creating “Bohemian Rhapsody,” a song which, at the time, was like nothing else on the radio. This is one of the main reasons I love this band.

BeeGees

When I think of the 1970s, I think disco. The BeeGees are mostly known for their slow, lovey-dovey, disco songs such as, “More Than a Woman,” and “How Deep is Your Love.” When I’m in the mood to dance, “Stayin Alive” is definitely my go to. If you haven’t heard of these songs yet I recommend doing so when you want to dance!

America

Another band perfect for that long road trip would be America. Although they are not as famous as other bands like The Eagles, America has left a long legacy of backroads music that relaxes and refreshes the mind. My favorite songs by this band would be, “Ventura Highway,” and “Sister Golden Hair.”

ABBA

Lastly, comes ABBA. If you’ve ever seen the movie, “Mamma Mia,” you definitely have heard some of their songs. Not only did they have an amazing and quintessential seventies aesthetic, but they perfectly executed it with their music. “Dancing Queen,” will forever remain an iconic addition to the perfect playlist, and “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” always provides me with an instant jolt of confident energy whenever I turn it on.
