The Kylie Jenner Lip Kit has been taking over the makeup industry since Kylie Cosmetics was launched in early 2016. With every launch and restock of products, everything has sold out within minutes. There always is SO much hype about the Kylie Lip Kits, but is it really all worth it? Well, if I’m being brutally honest, the answer is NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. Now I’m not going to be completely negative. Kylie Cosmetics do offer some beautiful shades and a good variety for every skin tone, but the products have had a more a negative impact on me than positive. So, here are a few reasons why Kylie Lip Kits are not up to my standards.

Crumblin’ and Crackin’

Yes, I’m aware matte lipsticks have to make your lips somewhat dry in order to stay matte, but the Kylie Lip Kit takes it to another level. After using the lip kit for the first time, I felt that my lips were extremely dry, a lot drier than normal when I use matte lipsticks (normally Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lip.) This was a bit of a setback, but I didn’t let myself judge the product just yet, so I went on with my day with the shade “Dolce K” on my lips. Not even five minutes after applying the lipstick I felt the formula cracking and realized that every time I talked to someone or moved my lips in any way, flakes of the dried up lipstick would fall off, which was extremely gross and embarrassing. Overall, that day I had to reapply the lipstick fifteen to twenty times just to keep it looking fresh and to keep it from looking crusty. I was dead set on hating the product but decided to eventually use another shade of the product, thinking maybe it was an issue with the color and how it reacted with the formula. Turns out I was wrong and the same crusty flaking issue occurred as the last time with the other shade. This is definitely a disappointment, being that Kylie is such a large public figure. I would expect her to care more about the quality of the formula for her own cosmetics line.

Twenty Nine Freakin’ Dollars

Okay, I’m not someone who is opposed to spending over $400 dollars on makeup, only if it is super good quality and will last me a significantly long amount of time. The Kylie Lip Kit is $29 and includes a lip liner and the liquid-to-matte lipstick itself. I will give Kylie the benefit of the doubt and say that it was a smart idea to include a matching lip liner with the product because it can sometimes be hard to find the exact liner match to a lipstick. But (here come the complaints), for such a cheaply-made product, I feel like the price could be significantly lower. I don’t believe spending $29 on a product that literally crumbles off your lips within five minutes is a good investment. With $29, you can buy two Sephora Cream Lip Stains, four NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, or four ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks, all of which have equal to better formulas compared to Kylie Cosmetics.

An Imposter?!?!

There were some speculations when Kylie Cosmetics launched that she, or preferably her cosmetics team, were stealing formulas from various different cosmetics lines. After some research from many different product developers was performed, it was proven that Kylie Cosmetics had stolen the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip formula. It honestly baffles me that not many people are aware of this and still continue to buy her product. ColourPop matte lipsticks are $6 and, as stated before, four lipsticks can be bought for the price of one Kylie Lip Kit. I feel that if Kylie wasn’t so famous and her products weren’t so successful, the Kylie Cosmetics Company would be shut down after this “impersonation” was proven. All I know is that I will not be supporting Kylie Cosmetics due to the fact that she is making so much extra profit off of a product that already exists in the exact same form. I know that Kylie Cosmetics will continue to get more and more popular and people will continue to praise her lip kits, and good for her, I guess. It must be nice to be so lazy and make so much money off of something that isn’t yours. (P.S. this isn’t hate toward Kylie, this is just hate towards her reaaaallllllllyyy bad product)
