Many of us have started this year with resolutions to complete. We are all set to stay healthy, be kind, land the dream job, and travel in 2018. Well, here’s one more to add: Inclusion should be a priority.
It really shouldn’t be on the list, on account of the fact that this is the 21st century, and there’s really no excuse for anyone to leave anyone out of what they deserve. Alas, these days, some people seem to have missed the memo.
Tarte Cosmetics recently released their new Foundation line. However, they only thought to include a very narrow shade range.
There are only three shades befitting dark skin tones, which is a shame, as there are lots of people who may not get to partake in this long-awaited line. Personally, my shade does not exist in this supposedly extensive line, and while I could probably mix two colors to get something reasonable, I shouldn’t have to spend $78 dollars when my lighter complexioned friends will be paying the normal price.
When called out for their blatant omission, Tarte basically said they were in a rush (because of all the hype), and so decided to release the rest of the line at a later time. I must say, though, that as far as excuses go, this one’s pretty disappointing. I mean, a whole Tarte Cosmetics? Releasing a product in a rush? Talk about thoughtless business decisions.
As sad as it is, this probably won’t be the last time this happens. However, one can only hope that this year, no one (regardless of demographic) is left out.
