Natural Disasters – We Can’t Deny Climate Change Any More

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Recently in the news, we’ve been seeing a lot of coverage on Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. These hurricanes have devastated Texas and Florida.

As well as Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey, there was an Earthquake in Mexico and mudslides in Sierra Leone. With all of this going on, it’s easy to ask, “Why?” While I’m no expert on natural disasters, to me, this is a sign that we need to pay more attention to climate change.

The United States alone uses up 1/3 of the world’s resources. Just America. When I hear this, it makes me think, “How can I cut down my consumption?” There are many obvious ways, such as carpooling, turning off the water when you brush your teeth, even riding bike instead of driving. While these are all great things to do, I think one of the most important things we can do is acknowledge that climate change is a problem and spread the word about it.
