On your daily commute to school or work, chances are you’re either listening to the news, music, or a podcast. I’ve been listening to podcasts since this past summer, and one of the things that always comes up when my friends and I are talking about them is what each other’s favorites are because we’re all looking for new podcasts to listen too. I wanted to share my current favorite podcasts that get me through my subway rides to and from school.

1. We’re The Ladies

We’re The Ladies is a podcast hosted by Carrie Murray and Julia Giaimo where they talk about a variety of topics as well as updates on their lives. I love listening to this because the girls are conversational, but they don’t get too off topic. The length of the episodes vary, some being as long as an hour, but Carrie and Julia are really funny and they move from one topic to the next so naturally that by the end of each episode I’m left instantly wanting to listen to the next one. It’s like I’m having a catch up with two of my girlfriends in their apartment when in reality I’m sitting on the subway on my way to school.

2. Second Life

Second Life is a podcast by Who What Wear, where host and co-founder of Who What Wear & MyDomaine Hillary Kerr interviews women working in various industries. From celebrities like Lauren Conrad and Jessica Alba to Alli Webb (the founder of DryBar) and Candace Nelson (the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes), this podcast documents the career changes of successful women at different points in their lives. I love listening to Second Life to learn more about the many different career opportunities available and also hear the backstory of popular businesses and brands.

3. Girl Gang The Podcast

Girl Gang The Podcast is very similar to Second Life, in the sense that the host (Amy Will) interviews women who are absolute girl bosses in their fields of work. Many of the episodes are fashion related, but there are some having to do with other industries (like the episode with Jennifer Smuckler (Executive Director of Television Music at Lionsgate). I love listening to this podcast. By the end of each episode, I always feel so inspired and pumped to be a girl boss in my own life. I’ll listen to this one on my way to school, and by the time I get to my subway stop, I feel ready to take on the day!

4. At Home With…

British bloggers Anna Newton and Lily Pebbles bring listeners inside their guests’ homes while interviewing them about their journeys that got them to where they are today, in their podcast (At Home With…). It’s a different take on a podcast, you wouldn’t think that podcasting about home interiors would work, but it does! Anna and Lily are great interviewers, and each episode comes across as more of casual chats than question after question, which I love. Everything about the podcast flows so nicely, I really enjoy listening to the episodes on my way home from school when I need to unwind after a busy day.

5. Bon Appétit Foodcast

Maybe wait to listen to this one after you’ve had breakfast/lunch! The podcast comes from Bon Appétit, the food magazine, and in each episode host, Adam Rapoport interviews people who work in various aspects of the industry. From going to 30 pizza joints in 36 hours in NYC to the process of starting up Sweet Green, the Bon Appétit Foodcast covers everything food related. Whether you love cooking, baking or are a self-proclaimed foodie, you’ll love listening to this!
