If the streets of New York have taught me anything it’s that black is timeless. No matter the season, you’ll see the city’s fashionistas rocking head to toe black. The classic and beloved color works most successfully in deep winter. However, I’m a firm believer that if you love something, integrate it into your life and forget about the rules. Take a glance into my wardrobe and you’ll come to find that a vast portion of my closet is made up of neutral colors—more specifically, black. There’s just something about the versatile, androgynous, powerful, goes-with-anything-and-everything essence of a black dress, top, skirt, or pair of shoes that I simply can’t resist.

An all black ensemble is the New Yorker’s uniform. No, it’s not because we are mourning the loss of our cash to vanilla lattes—I swear I’m not addicted. It’s effortlessly chic and delightfully simple. In a city where everyone is busy, consumed with work, school and other affairs—black is the neat veil that maintains our resilient composure. Black allows us to experiment with textures like ruffles and crepes, layer pieces, and play with accessories. And yes, the color may be conveniently hiding the fact that we don’t always have access to a washing machine. Above all, it’s powerful, sexy, and allows us to harmonize with the dark and mysterious ambiance of the city that is always present, even on the sunniest of days.

Sometimes my wardrobe feels a bit gloomy and heavy, but come 90-degree temperatures I still find myself reaching for a little black sundress with a slink back and taking the city by storm.

Believer in monochromatic outfits, powerful women, and incorporating bread into every meal.
