With winter around the corner, collegiettes™ everywhere are slowly beginning to switch out their wardrobes.
Goodbye tank tops, mini skirts and flip-flops. Hello scarves, sweaters and snow boots. Nothing is cute about slushy snow boots. But don’t fret ladies – there are plenty of other things to wear this winter that will ensure we don’t freeze to death.
Shorts are the new skirts. As Elle magazine says, “Denim shorts defy seasonal boundaries.” They’re comfy, andyou won’t spend the whole night pulling them down. Shorts don’t have to be jeans. They now range from lace to leather. To keep warm, have some fun with tights and over-the-knee socks. They’ll be your new best friends. A nice pair of camel-colored shorts with gray wool tights or socks will be super warm and super stylin’. With so many different patterns, you’ll never be an outfit repeater!

Just because we’re in love with shorts right now does not mean skirts are out of the question. My latest
obsession is the distressed denim pencil skirt. Statement skirts are totally in right now. If you are looking to brighten your outfit, ditch the patterned shirt and go with the patterned skirt. A pencil skirt will flatter your waist, especially if you add a belt.

Ladies, please leave the yoga leggings at home. Invest in some leggings that are thicker than the ones you wear
to the gym. Then you can wear them with booties for a night on the town or with flats to the office. They’ll lookmore professional, and you’ll be a lot warmer. How do you know if the leggings are thick enough? You don’t have to bend over in front of the mirror to see if your thong shows through! (It’s ok – we’ve all done it.)

When it comes to tops, don’t be afraid to unleash your inner prep. Vogue says it’s all about being simple and
looking effortlessly chic. A colorful silk oxford can make any outfit more interesting. If preppy isn’t your modus operandi, then add some edge to a silk oxford with faux-leather shorts. Go for a military-style jacket, leather jacket, jean jacket, trench coat or blazer for much-needed warmth. Frat boys won’t know what hit them.

As I said before, slushy snow boots are so not cute. There are other options for when the snow hits the ground.
This winter, find an over-the-knee boot. That way if you do wear a skirt, your legs will be toasty. Throw on a pair of long socks or tights, and you’ll be good to go. And ladies, unless your heels are lined with fur, leave them athome.
Winter will be over before we know it. We just have to deal with the cold and the wet for a little while, and then it’s time for spring 2012 collections!
