What is Pure Barre?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

As a fitness enthusiast, marathon runner and yogi, I’ve found Pure Barre to be my latest workout fascination. After hearing about it through friends, I decided to give the class a try. My investment in Pure Barre was deemed successful the moment I finished the first class.

For those unfamiliar with Pure Barre, it is a 55-minute strength and toning workout consisting of small isometric movements to high-intensity music. It is in a boutique studio that hosts this one class multiple times a day. Similar to how a yoga or pilates studio is set up, Pure Barre has one main room where students gather to perform workouts. There isn’t a moment during the class where your muscles or mind is not engaged in some way, making the class speed by. At the beginning of each class, students get three pieces of equiptment they’ll use to assist them with workouts including: a ball, a band and a light set of 2, 3 or 5 pound weights.

Each 55-minute class is designed to burn fat, lift your seat and tone every muscle in your body. According to the Pure Barre website, “Pure Barre is the fastest, most effective, yet safest way to change your body.” The site also claims that students will see a change within 10 days. The classes go by lightning fast, and you can feel your body changing even going one time.

So why haven’t you heard of this before? Pure Barre is a relatively new workout regimen, and franchises have been emerging over the U.S. since 2009. Fitness guru and dancer, Carrie Rezabek, created Pure Barre in 2001 and today it has over 50 locations in the U.S. New studios are constantly emerging. Pure Barre has been featured in Health, Fitness and Shape Magazines. Pure Barre DVDs are also available on their website.

The best way to achieve maximum benefit is by attending Pure Barre 3-4 times a week, in conjunction with cardio exercise. Although Pure Barre gets your heart pumping, and does make you sweat, it is more strength training than anything. Pure Barre creates the lean “dancer” muscle by using your own body weight as resistance. This eliminates the bulk, and tones your muscles. Pure Barre is safe, as each exercise is taught to protect your joints and lower back.

Pure Barre has numerous new member and student deals available for those curious about this new workout fad.  Check out their website here
