Six Things to Do When You Change Your Major for the Eleventh Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Yes, I did post a poll on my Instagram story to ask what I should major in. Did this influence my decisions? Yup.

1. Make thirty-five advisor appointments.

Do you think they’re tired of you coming in and asking them what you should do? Probably. Do you think they find your questions stupid? No way to tell. Do you think they run into their other advisor friends and talk about how messy you are? Probably not, but like, can’t blame them if they do.

2. Ask professors, graduates, your parents, your friends, your classmates, randoms in speaker circle, and the bouncer at bottomless what you should major in or what your job should be.

Do you basically ask all these people who may or may not have any bearing in your life to figure out your future career for you? Yes. Can they reasonably do this? No. Do you know they can’t reasonably do this? Maybe. Doesn’t matter. The heart wants what it wants.

3. Join clubs that don’t make sense for your major.

Wanna know how many online magazines I write for? Two. Wanna know who all my fellow writers are? Journalism majors. Wanna know what I am? Biochem (for now).

4. Consider becoming a social media influencer instead of getting a degree.

Realize you’re nowhere near cool enough for that.

5. Tell yourself being a fifth-year isn’t that bad.

Everyone does it these days! That’s what the college experience is all about! It’s not a big deal, employers know that! I can totally keep this a secret from my parents!

6. Get a second job to provide for your coffee and Red Bull expenses.

You’ll need it.
