A Kiss From A Rose: Collegiette Talks Bachelorette

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

It’s Bachelorette season again. Brace yourselves and buckle up for a fresh roller coaster ride of emotions as we accompany Ashley Herbert in her search for love.

She’s got new hair, a new bod and – thanks to the magic of spray tanning – what appears to be a new ethnicity.

It’s been a while since Brad dumped Ash for a more blonde and less hyper competitor. Now, it seems as though Ashley will get the last laugh. Before being dumped by Emily, Brad had a bratty tot to buy Barbie dolls for while Ashley has a cast of 25 men to play with. Before we take a look at this season’s line-up, however, let’s take a walk down memory lane with our new bachelorette.

Things we remember about Ash:

  1. She likes scary carnivals that feature clown tents.
  2. She has questionable style. Do we all remember the tin foil/yellow tutu dress?
  3. Her father is a sinister man who will murder any person that stands in the way of Ashley and her career in dentistry.
  4. She reminds us of a terrier.
  5. She made it to the final three standing in Brad’s season before she was mercilessly dumped in Africa.

Bradley points to a memo from Chris Harrison that one of the crew members passed to him. It reads: “The only thing scarier than the clown tent is that tutu.”

Despite being dumped, Ashley seems more ready than ever to find love. And what better way to do it than on national television through a series of unrealistic dates, emotional breakdowns and repeated displays of male arrogance? Let’s get this party started!

Of the 25 men, I’ve selected a few that I’d like to keep my eye on this season. I’ve also pulled some that concern me. Check out my two cents on this season’s front-runners and points of concern here.

I think a Bachelorette contestant summed it up best with his impeccable use of rhyme during the season’s May 23rd premiere: “It’s gonna take guts and nuts to do this,” cried the muffled voice from the crowd of men as Ryan, instant fan favorite, was the first to pull Ashley away for one-on-one time. It’s a treacherous game, but they all must play it … and we must ridicule them. Brush up on the first two weeks of all things Bachelorette with my season premiere recap and episode 2 summary. (A taste of Week 2: It’s time for Harrison to lay some truth on the men. From here on out, there will be group and individual dates. Ash will start to pick the men off one by one. Nobody is safe. Everybody should be scared…)

Coming up this season: Flashdancing, jet plane rides, an Asian battleship, Thailand, elephants, the Hogwarts Express, paper lanterns as seen in the newest Disney film Tangled, The Phantom dropping a deuce while reading a magazine, someone going to the ER and Ashley crying in her bed.

I’ll be posting weekly throughout the season. Stay tuned, collegiettes™.
