Fall Entertainment Preview: Your Guide to Movies and TV Shows

The beginning of the school year might be the end to summer fun and homework-free nights, but it also marks the return of our guilty pleasures – fall show premieres. Time to set aside an hour to watch and another for weekly meetings at Memorial Union to discuss all the drama these shows have to offer. Need a great movie to get away from the stress of paper or exams? We’ve got recommendations for that, too.

Television Guide

Glee – Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
It’s that time of year again, Collegiettes! Glee returns for the third season this fall on FOX. Get ready for another school year of singing, dancing and drama from the New Directions. This will be a season to remember because it’s the final one for some of the cast members.

New Girl – Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m.
This new FOX comedy stars Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day, a quirky 20-something who decides to move into a loft with three single guys after a bad breakup. Each roommate has unique qualities, and together they make an interesting combination compared to the women Jess used to hang out with. New Girl covers relationships and the hilarious insanity that goes with them.

Charlie’s Angels – Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.  
What do a thief, cop and streetcar racer have in common? They’re all angels! Charlie’s angels to be exact. ABC launches the new series, produced by Drew Barrymore and based on the 1970s show. Abby, Kate and Eve take on Miami by solving cases and giving a little twist to this popular classic.

Grey’s Anatomy – Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
Whether lusting after McSteamy or stressing about Meredith Grey, the staff of Seattle Grace Hospital has rattled the emotions of viewers for seven seasons. The eighth season will be filled with more of the trials, pain and hope that have made this ABC drama worthy of a Golden Globe. The two-hour premiere should not be missed as Meredith faces her fate in both her career and relationship.

Desperate Housewives – Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m.
The housewives are back for their final season on ABC. The ladies of Wisteria Lane will once again deal with the drama and deception of their neighbors. For seven seasons the housewives have kept their fans on the edges of their seats. They are expected to do it one last time before we have to “Kiss them Goodbye.”

Gossip Girl – Monday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.  
We can follow the over-the-top lives of Manhattan’s royalty during the show’s fifth season. The cast heads to Los Angeles, where they create more of the scandals their viewers crave. Blair plans Serena’s royal wedding while Dan learns there are consequences to writing about his friends. Let the gossip continue. XOXO.

Movie Guide

Abduction – Sept. 23
Can’t wait to see Taylor Lautner in the newest Twilight Saga movie (which, by the way, comes out Nov. 18)? Then don’t miss this movie. The action film stars Lautner as Nathan Harper, a teen whose life gets turned upside down after a team of killers invade his home. On the run with his neighbor Karen (Lily Collins), Nathan is forced to discover his true identity and why he’s being chased as he faces his opponents head on.

What’s Your Number – Sept. 30
Ally Darling (Anna Faris) is tired of meaningless relationships and decides it’s time to start looking for love in all of her exes. With the help of her neighbor Colin Shea (Chris Evans), Ally reunites with twenty men she’s had relationships with. It’s a romantic comedy full of laughs, love and figuring out who one really is.

Dream House – Sept. 30
This thriller is perfect for Collegiettes looking for a little scare. Will Atenton (Daniel Craig) and his wife Libby (Rachel Weisz) move to a small town in New England with their two young daughters. They learn their new home was once the scene of the murder of a mother and her daughters. Will begins to question neighbors like Ann Paterson (Naomi Watts) to discover what really happened and if the widowed husband is responsible for the death of his family. Don’t get too comfortable because things aren’t always what they seem for the residents of the “Dream House.”  

Dirty Girl – Oct. 7
Norman, Okla., is in for some trouble when Danielle (Juno Temple) enrolls at Norma High School in 1987. Labeled as a troublemaker, she is quickly forced to take a remedial class. She’s assigned a parenting project with quiet loner Clarke (Jeremy Dozier). Collegiettes will enjoy watching as the two teens escape to California and discover who they really are.

Footloose – Oct. 14
The favorite film is brought back to life with a modern twist. Get ready to watch Ren MacCormack (Kenny Wormald) take on Bomont with the help of Ariel Moore (Juliann Hough). Music and dancing are prohibited in this small southern town, but that doesn’t stop Ren and Ariel. Viewers are sure to be dancing in their seats. Will this remake live up to the original?

Paranormal Activity 3 – Oct. 21
If the first and second films were not enough to scare you, the third film of the series is sure to. The storyline is new, and the movie follows a family in the 1980s who is forced to deal with the supernatural.

In Time – Oct. 28

Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) lives in a world where everyone has the ability to live forever – if you can afford to pay for the time. Each minute is one closer to his death. After being accused of murder he decides to stand up and take down the system with the help of Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried).
