Dancing the Night Away for Dance Marathon 2011!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

MU students danced the day and night away Saturday, March 12 during this year’s Dance Marathon. A student-led event, the marathon lasted from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. and raised nearly $30,000 for the Mizzou Children’s Hospital. Teams of students participated, and in addition to dancing for twelve hours straight, they got to dress up for themed hours such as “Harry Potter” and “Preppy.” Each hour a team won a spirit stick for a positive attitude and crazy costuming. Participants also heard stories from the families of young cancer survivors who had received treatment at the hospital, which made the marathon much more personal. At Dance Marathon, everything is FTK- for the kids!

Dance Marathoners learn a choreographed dance, which includes the “Time Warp” and “Like a G6 ” rewritten to a Harry Potter theme. They learn a small part each hour and perform the entire dance at the end of the Marathon.

Three girls drop it low dancing to “Apple Bottom Jeans:” by T-Pain during hour three of 12.

Each Dance Marathon team creates a banner to be displayed during the event.
