5 Reasons We Love Nicholas Sparks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Nicholas Sparks is a renowned and popular author.  He has sold over 80 million copies of his books and written 18 books (with his 19th to be released this September), eight of which have been turned into movies.

We love Nicholas Sparks because he writes such moving love stories.  Each story takes the reader on a journey that feels as real as final exams!

We love his books because:

1.  We adore a classic love story!

Sparks’ books are filled with the classic boy-meets-girl fantasies, and who doesn’t enjoy those?  “The Notebook,” for example, is about getting a second chance at love.  These types of stories pull at the heartstrings of many.  The Dallas Morning News reviewed the book: “Focuses on a man, a woman, and the transforming power of love. … The Notebook is shocking only in its simplicity of form and purity of line.”

2.  His books are real, focusing on emotional moments and trials.

Nicholas Sparks’ books include many tragic elements and, when asked, he claimed it was because his stories are supposed to seem real.  Real life is full of tragedy, which makes his stories as though you’ve taken a backseat in someone else’s experiences. Everyone enjoys a dramatic story and love stories are often filled with trials and “bittersweet moments,” making readers experience a wide array of emotions.

3.  The plots are suspenseful, leaving readers on the edges of their seats.

“The Guardian” was written in typical Nicholas Sparks fashion, but with a new jolt of intensity.  The book still provided the emotional rollercoaster that he’s known for by readers, but added a more extreme feeling of suspense.  This is just another example of how Sparks keeps his readers turning page after page.

4.  We feel nostalgic because his books focus on family values, nobility, perseverance and strength.

“A Walk to Remember” was a story about surviving the tragedies life throws at a person, while still living life to the fullest.  The Charleston Post and Courier wrote: “Sparks creates a bittersweet message in Landon’s rite of passage from a sheltered youngster to a selfless and loving man.”  This is a prime example of how Sparks includes family values, love, chivalry and strength into the characters he creates.

5.  It’s easy to immerse yourself into the world he’s created!

Sparks has the ability to write in a way that creates life and, page-by-page, the characters walk out of the book and into your hearts and minds.  It’s easy to forget about your own worries when faced with the love, pain and triumph of another.  The escape into this alternate reality is a nice break from daily life and leaves the readers feeling renewed.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good read once in awhile?  Nicholas Sparks manages to send readers into a bestselling plot every time the spine of one of his books is cracked.  He sends us into a new world having a sense of curiosity and, when we come back, we have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions that leave us feeling satisfied.
