10 Perfect Activities for a Rainy Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Winter might be approaching, but we still have some weeks of fall weather ahead of us. This almost always means rain. We’re strongly committed to Netflix, but sometimes you just need a change. Take time out of your next rainy day to do one of these 10 things:

1. Online Shopping

We all do it during class, but why not save the online shopping for a day when you need a lift in your spirits? I recommend starting with MZ Wallace. Their website has so many casual classy bags that your books would be honored to be carried in! The Chelsea Tote is a great addition to any college girl’s back to school wardrobe.

2. Actual Shopping

The second best thing to shopping online? Getting some real shopping done at your favorite stores. Looking to save money? Try an off-price department store, like Marshall’s. These stores hold everything from home décor to discounted clothing from select designers. The only time you’ll have to deal with the bad weather is when sprinting from your car to the store and trust us, it’s worth it. We recently went on a spree at Marshall’s, and look at the some of the swag we picked up (including two workout tops, cropped leggings, some candles, office supplies and an adorable mug!):

3. Giving Yourself a Makeover

Products like TRESemme Sea Salt Spray and TRESemme Undone Wave Creation Sea Foam give you the summery vibes that you’ll need to lift your spirits. Once you feel like you just emerged from the ocean, you’ll forget all about the rain.

4. Crafting

What’s even better than glitter? Glitter glue. It will only get all over you if you want it to, unlike normal glitter. Martha Stewart Crafts Glitter Glue comes in 24 colors, which are necessary to add character to everything in life. Being stuck inside on a rainy day with a whole rainbow of glitter glue means there’s an 80 percent chance of decorating half of the surfaces in your apartment. Who would deny an opportunity like that?

5. Baking

Even if baking isn’t normally your thing, what better way to improve your skills than staying in and baking on a rainy day? Worried about the calorie count of the delicious treats you plan on making? Try baking with Zingby Stevia! The sweetener has zero calories but the sweetness of two packets of regular sugar. Bonus: your baking can bring you a reward bigger than a fresh batch of cookies. #BakeaChange by entering yourself in She’s the First cupcake bake off! The money raised goes towards scholarships for girls in low-income countries.

6. Go to the Gym

The pain of working out is worth the content feeling you get after. A great way to feel productive on any rainy day is doing some cardio. If you need structure, try a new workout class. It will surely bring excitement (and endorphins) to your day.

7. Perfect the Smoky Eye

Decided to give yourself a makeover but don’t know where to start? We could all use this extra practice! The ancient art of the smoky eye is something only a very select few have perfected. Use a thick eyeshadow stick for ease, like the NYC City Proof 24-hour Eye Shadow stick to make sure your masterpiece isn’t washed off by your tears of frustration. This might take the entire day. Good luck!

8. Read a Book

Nobody has time to read for pleasure anymore. Either we feel guilty for reading something that isn’t a textbook, or we just don’t like reading. Here’s a list of books that might change your mind. Another book on our radar? We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. This book has recently earned itself a bunch of awards, and tells the tale of a girl who suffers a traumatic accident and can’t remember what happened. We couldn’t put it down!

9. Watch a Scary Movie

Halloween is coming up! What better time to get yourself in the right mindset than a gloomy day filled with cheap horror films and a big bowl of candy corn?

10. Make a Blanket Fort
