What Your Favorite Halloween Movie Says About You

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Yes, I am doing another one of these types of articles, but I like them and you like them so I don’t see a problem. I will not be taking criticisms so sit back and enjoy!

Coraline

This is the movie that scared the pants off of people when they were kids. Those people later grew up to be horror movie lovers that still feel creeped out by the movie. I would know, I am those people. If Coraline is your favorite Halloween movie, then you probably have this fantasy of escaping reality and living as a different person. You want your own version of the “Other World” to go to when life gets a little too real. You’re the type of person who has their head in the clouds and doesn’t want to feel grounded. If there was a portal to another world you would most likely jump at the opportunity to explore this new place and experience the fantastical. All in all you are most likely an alternative queen who loved this movie as a kid and never grew out of it. My advice is to keep that link to the fantastical for as long as possible and never stop daydreaming. That’s what I think at least.

Monster House

Another surprisingly scary one for an animated movie. You most likely were drawn in by the interesting art style and goofy characters. You stayed when you saw the house had a face and ate people. You grew up to love creepy movies and imagery because it has a nostalgic and almost cute aspect to them. I definitely thought the evil house was adorable as a kid which is more concerning than you know. This movie shaped your later obsession with the occult and other creepy otherworldly things. If you happened to have a neighbor like Horace Nebbercracker when you were a kid, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but that’s also just the icing on this messed up cake!

Nightmare Before Christmas

Having a crisis throughout is life like the crisis of whether this movie is a Halloween or Christmas movie. Seriously, when is the appropriate time to watch this?! Anyway, you probably had a crush on Jack Skeleton as a kid and from my perspective I can’t really blame you. This movie has a fandom like no other and you have hints of the movie’s characters all around your home. It doesn’t help that Hot Topic makes such cute merchandise! Holidays of any sort are your favorite times of the year and celebrations are what you live for. Those celebrations don’t necessarily need to be huge parties, they could be an evening snuggled up in a blanket on the couch watching this very movie. You go all out for decorations and gifts because you want to make sure that the people around you are happy. What you may need to learn is that people don’t just like you for your material possessions and what you can give them. They like you for your character, kindness and enthusiasm towards life.

Corpse Bride

You enjoy the one-sided love troupe and I’ve got to ask, are you ok? You’re all for the blue aesthetics and dreary scenic elements but is that really all there is? I think you most likely see yourself in Victor. This meaning that there is a good chance that you struggle with extreme anxiety or other intense emotions. You are a gentle type of person who prefers the comfort of others over your own. Running yourself down by chasing after people that don’t appreciate what you have to offer is something that happens to you often and that doesn’t help anyone. My advice is to be kinder to yourself and rock that Emily costume that you definitely wore or are going to wear at some point.

Any Scooby Doo Movie

You want to stay connected to your childhood and you’re holding on with white knuckles. The simplicity and pattern of the Scooby Doo franchise gives you a comfort like no other and you crave that you could go back to being a kid. You also one-hundred percent wanted to try Scooby Snacks and probably got those graham cracker ones to pretend you were part of the mystery gang. While all the Scooby Doo movies are iconic, we have to admit to ourselves that some were better than others. I, for one, will always be a die-hard believer that “Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost” is the most top-tier Scooby Doo movie of all time and anyone can fight me on this. Please try, I am relentless when it comes to Scooby. Anyways, these movies taught you how to seek out trouble and created a sense of justice in you that you try to appease every day. They probably battle in your consciousness a lot. One side is telling you to do the right thing, and the other is telling you to check what that noise in the basement was. You definitely wanted to be the Hex Girls when you were a kid and that obsession shaped your interests and style as an adult. Stay loving Scooby Doo as you get older, it has helped me more than I thought. Although that thirst for mystery and trouble has not been the best for my friends and family.

Any Disney Halloween Movie

Similar to the Scooby Doo people, you want to keep hold of your childhood and find that connection in cheesy, colorful, and mostly harmless Halloween movies. I say mostly harmless because to this day, I can still sing that one song from Girl vs. Monster word for word. It’s not a talent I am particularly proud of. There isn’t much to talk about when it comes to the fans of Disney Halloween movies such as Halloweentown, Girl vs. Monster, and Hocus Pocus. You are just letting that inner child dictate your interests and comforts which is completely valid!
