The saying “empowered women empower women” is absolutely true. We live in a world where there is a gender wage gap, where women aren’t given equal work rights, and where some women aren’t allowed to even be educated. As individuals, we simply cannot tackle these huge problems on our own; however, we can empower the women around us and see the affects it has on a huge scale. Empowerment spreads like a wild fire and it can even inspire others to make the major changes we need. Here are some ways you can work on empowering the women you see and interact with on a daily basis.

It isn’t always eay to open up on hardships you’ve been through, but it can play a signifigant role in giving other women a voice. The world has been transformed by women who spoke out, and we’ve gotten a lot of our rights from it. While it is important to share your story, it is just as important to listen to others. Learn about the women who have paved the way for us today and learn about how they got where they are.

If a woman feels confident and strong, she will act according to those feelings. This goes deeper than just complimenting someone’s hair or nails, women get comments on their looks almost every day. Instead of complimenting her with words like beautiful and pretty, try complimenting her with words like intelligent, kind, and dedicated.

Support Women-Run Businesses

Go out of your way to purchase everyday items from a woman-run business. According to Forbes, men are twice as likely to $100,000 or more for their businesses. Female entrepreneurs lack funds as well as support. Not only should you invest your money into women-run business, but also invest your time if you are able.

Shut Down Negativity

Don’t speak negatively about other women, and try to shut down “girl-bashing” if it takes place. Lift up the women around you instead, you’ll feel better anyway when you avoid hurtful comments. If you shift the mood to something more positive, everyone else’s mood will shift with it.

Lead By Example

The best way to empower women is to empower yourself. Be everything you would want your sisters, cousins, and fellow women to be. Be the tough, independent, and understanding woman that you would want to be around. Show others that you practice what you preach.

Empowering women doesn’t have to be a difficult thing to do. It can be as simple as sharing your hardships and being a rock for someone who needs it. We live in a world where we need others and where we need a helping hand at times. If you need support, don’t be afraid to ask. If someone asks for support, be their support system. Women have to look out for each other.
