Ross Young is a secondary math education major who will be graduating from Millersville next spring. During his time here, Ross has been involved in many activities and can be frequently spotted snapping photos for The Snapper at most school events. This week, Ross took the time to sit down and answer some questions about the best parts parts of his Millersville experience. So next time you spot Ross on campus, be sure to say hi; he evidently has a talent for making even strangers feel like old friends.

Why did you choose Millersville?

The primary reason I chose MU was for its reputation of having one of the best programs for potential teachers. My secondary reasons were the location and cost of attendance.

What is your favorite thing about Millersville?

My favorite thing about Millersville is the location. It is far enough away from the city to still feel like a suburban school, but close enough to points of interest to make finding extra-curricular activities easy.

Why did you choose your major?

I am currently a B.S.E. Mathematics student. I chose my major based on my enjoyment with mathematics and my love for watching someone hit that “Eureka!” moment when they understand a topic in math. Everyone always seemed to have that one math teacher along the way that just turned them off to math and made it feel that math was something they “weren’t good at.” I want to show future students that math can be fun and exciting and it doesn’t have to be a chore or burden.

Are you involved in anything on campus?

I work as a Senior Desk Attendant in Gaige Hall. In the past I have worked as a Resident Assistant in Bard Hall and a Library Assistant. I play intramurals on and off, just depends when friends need an extra player; I have won a few champion shirts through intramurals. I am also a photographer for The Snapper.

What is your favorite thing during the school year?

My favorite thing to do around campus is go to First Friday each month. It is definitely one of the best activities when you just want to get a break and recharge.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I plan to teach in either inner city or travel the world teaching math. I have often thought about moving to Hawaii to teach right after college. I don’t have too many constraints on my plans post graduation, I’m keeping my options open for now.

What will you miss most about Millersville?

I am going to miss the friends I have made and the trips to Lancaster City.

What is something you have learned here, or some way your time at Millersville has influenced you?

Millersville has taught me to manage my time well and create lasting friendships.

What is something you want to do before graduation?

Before I graduate I want to visit Chiques’ Rock and also either go Tubing or Kayaking down the Conestoga river.

Favorite TV shows?

“Game of Thrones”, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” , “The Blacklist”, “The Americans” and “Almost Human”

What is something someone would be surprised to know about you?

I used to be a gymnast when I was younger and went to Disney World to compete.

Do you have any special talents?

I have an uncanny ability to talk to complete strangers as if they were old friends.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I dislike being late to anything and so it follows that I don’t like when people are late when they give you a set time.

Where would you most like to travel?

I would like to travel to the Europe or travel back to Puerto Rico.

I am an English major with a minor in History. I am a senior at Millersville University about to make my way out into the real world. I would love to keep writing and doing the kinds of things HerCampus has given me the opportunity to do. School and extracurricuar activities keep me busy, so you'll often find me buzzed on caffiene, but in the free time I do have I tend to binge watch way too much Netflix. Awesome friends, an amazing boyfriend, and great music keep me centered.
