The upcoming Irish holiday isn’t the only thing green around here; Millersville has been making a number of strides to become a more green campus and was recently named by The Princeton Review as one of the top green schools in the country. Out of the fourteen sister PASSHE state schools in Pennsylvania, Millersville is one of just two schools to make the list. The schools featured on the list were ranked on a green scale between 60 and 99.
One of the biggest places these changes, and effects, can be seen is in the dining halls. In the last year, some of the most remarkable facts about how environmentally friendly Millersville is becoming revolve solely around the dining halls on campus. A great deal of the food budget was spent on organic and local foods while the school saw it’s carbon footprint being reduced by it’s efforts. Additionally, one of the latest buildings to finish it’s construction on campus, Stayer Hall, has met Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards with its recycled building materials and energy efficient lighting.
Millersville also features a course that revolves around a new green society. Entitled “Climate and Society”, the course has students collecting data about greenhouse gases to see how it is effecting the University as a whole and what can be done to help omit greenhouse gasses.
