Halloween? Not Quite Over Yet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean the festivities need to end. No, this week’s attraction doesn’t include candy, ghouls or monsters. Nothing haunted, either. This week’s recommended event is “Poe Evermore,” a spooky, dramatic reenactment of three tales by the famous poet Edgar Allan Poe.

Okay, maybe I’m a bit biased because I’m an English major and Poe happens to be one of my favorite authors, but don’t stop reading just yet – I have a feeling this attraction can grab the attention of any college student, math and science majors included.

The reenactment features an invitation by honored writer and psychiatrist, Dr. Frederick A. Rauch, to join his committee of doctors as they evaluate of several new patients in the psychiatric ward in a small hospital. Edgar Allan Poe, the celebrated American author, will attend in order to observe this obscenely insane crew and maybe even share some of his own discoveries. This will allow you to enter their world, hear their tales, and decide for yourself if these patients are fit to be released into the public, or “if they will be free… Never More.”

Each patient retells one of the four most popular Edgar Allan Poe tales known to man: The Tell Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Premature Burial and his most famous work, The Raven. Click here for a short summary of each work if you are not familiar with the stories already.

Performances run from October 31st through November 13th with show times at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. – times may vary depending on the day. Prices begin at $19. Meals after or before the show are offered at the theatre for an additional charge. The location is at the Mansion on the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire grounds in Manheim, PA. To get there, all you have to do is hop onto PA-741 W for about fifteen minutes, then turn onto PA-72 N for another ten or so. Any other questions? Check out their website here or call 717-665-7021 for more info.

So, like I said, don’t let the subject of English this performance entails scare you away. Poe was an amazing poet and storyteller during his time, continuing into today, and his tales send a creepy, spine-chilling vibe out to his audience. Take advantage of this opportunity to hear them in person and extend the Halloween holiday – evermore.
