5 Things You Shouldn’t Be For Halloween This Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

Halloween is quickly approaching and that means it’s almost time to perfect your costume. You’re never too old to dress up for Halloween, even if you are just sitting on your couch binge-watching scary movies all night. No matter if you’re going out to a party, trick-or-treating, or simply handing out candy, it’s always fun to dress up and have fun with it. This year has certainly been crazy (to say the least) with things that have happened. Here is a reminder of some costumes you should definitely stay away from this year unless you want to offend some people.

1. Clown

Wih all of the reports of creepy clowns popping up across the United States and causing mayhem, I highly doubt that anyone wants to come face to face with one of them on Halloween. So please don’t dress up as a clown this year, even if it is the cutest clown ever and you have a flower that sprays water.

2. Donald Trump I think we can agree that this has to be the most craziest election to date, so please let Halloween be the one free day of not mentioning politics. No one wants to be yelled at because of their costumes, or have their hat stolen to say “RUM MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

3. Hillary Clinton

No one wants to debate politcs on Halloween. So if you are a Republican, Democratic, or an undecided voter, just keep your political views to yourself (no matter how funny you think your Hillary costume will be).

4. Kim Kardashian

The internet can certainly be a mean place, but I think this costume that is supposed to depict Kim Kardashian being robbed is just plain cruel. Whether is was an inside job or not, being tied and held up at gun point is no laughing matter to recreate in a costume.

5. Native American

With everything that is happening with the North Dakota pipeline right now, dressing up as any sort of American Indian is not a good idea. Just remember: what doesn’t seem offensive to you can be offensive to someone else’s culture.

No matter what you choose to dress up as, remember to be considerate this (and every) Halloween, collegiettes. HCXO!
