Second-hand fashion is becoming increasingly popular these days, and for good reasons. As someone who has been thrift shopping for many years, I love to talk about my favorite stores and awesome finds. Plus, there are some great benefits to buying second-hand. Here are four reasons why I love thrifting!

As a working college student, I am very choosy about how I spend my money, but I still like to shop and have fun with my clothes. Thrift shopping is a great way to purchase cute wardrobe items because second-hand clothes are often much less expensive than buying new. I’ve even found pieces that still have the original tags on them but are half the price of the original cost.
- Better for the Environment

Fast fashion is a hot topic when it comes to conversations about the environment. It’s very common for people to buy a new clothing item, wear it for a season, and then throw it away. This constant cycle has unused clothes piling up in landfills and hurting the environment. By participating in thrifting, people are donating their clothes instead of throwing them away. Also, instead of enabling the cycle of fast fashion, they are reusing clothes and still get to have fun finding new items.
- Unique Finds

I’ll admit, sometimes the clothes in thrift stores are not up to the current trends. However, often I will find a diamond in the rough and totally luck out on finding a cool piece. Also, trends aren’t everything, and I personally find that many fashion trends don’t look great on me anyway. There is usually a range of clothes at thrift stores, from vintage to current styles available. There is something for everyone and since there aren’t racks of the same item, you are sure to find something unique.

One last reason why I love thrifting is how fun it is! I really enjoy searching through everything to find something awesome. You just never know what you’re going to find. I will go by myself sometimes, but I think it’s especially fun to go with friends or family. It’s always a fun challenge to look for items for my friend and see if they like what I picked out. Thrifting is also fun because you can easily experiment with new styles and clothes you wouldn’t normally wear.
While there are certainly more reasons to go thrifting, these are my four favorites! If you haven’t tried it, I hope this article will inspire you to give it a go! I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what you find.
