Take Back The Night Rally 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Take Back the Night’s annual event was held Wednesday, October 3rd. If you missed it, Her Campus is here to fill you in on what went down. The event was broken into two parts described below.

Part One:
The speakouts. Speakouts was a safe environment where people who have been affected by sexual assault or rape can talk openly about their experiences.

Part Two: The next part of the event is the march. Everyone met behind the Shriver patio and marched to Uptown Park where a poem and statistics on sexual assault were read. Then everyone marched back to Shriver, where we totaled up how many supporters were in attendance for the survivors of sexual assault or rape. There were a record 157 people!

The event was put together by members of The F-WORD (Feminists Working on Real Democracy). The F-WORD is a feminist student organization composed of individuals who desire to address, through discussion, activism, and support, important issues that specifically concern the women of Miami University. For more information or if you’d like to get involved with The F-WORD’s initiatives, check them out on Facebook,  or follow them on twitter.
