3 Awesome, Easy Up-do’s To Try Today

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Let’s face it- every Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, you stand in front of the mirror wondering “How in the world am I going to do my hair tonight?” These questions are part of a girl’s daily routine, and we get tired of the same mundane look. Let’s be real; the Snooki poof has come and gone! Here are some super cute and easy hairstyles to try the next time you are getting dolled up for a night out with your friends.

Ballet Bun
The ballet bun is a huge, huge hit this year! It is super easy to do, and it’s not just for those wearing leotards and tutus.

To accomplish this chic look:

  • Gather all your hair in a ponytail to secure the bun
  • As you slick back your hair, spray a little bit of hairspray onto a comb, and comb down any fly-aways that (This extra step is guaranteed to make your hair more smooth)
  • Next, grab another hair tie and wrap your hair around in a circular motion until you can wrap your hair tie around the base of the bun

This style is bold enough by itself, so you don’t want to overdo it by adding any clips or headbands. Sometimes some bold earrings look great with this hairstyle. When in doubt, add the classic pearls! (Photo credit: weardrobe)

Fishtail Braid
Curling your hair and wearing it down can become so boring after a while. This beautiful fishtail braid hairstyleis extremely easy to accomplish, plus your hair won’t be in the way when you are out dancing with friends! This look can be accomplished in 2 main steps

1. Tease the crown of your hair:

  • Use a comb to section off hair from the top of your head.
  • Spray hairspray on both the bottom and top of the sectioned off hair to make it easier to tease.
  • Brush your hair against the grain, down towards your head. (Later, you can lightly comb down any pieces of hair that aren’t laying flat)

2. Braid into the fishtail:
Make sure that you have a secure hair tie at hand before you start braiding your hair (using the little black or clear rubber bands work better because they don’t make the end of the braid look bulky). Do not be overwhelmed by the fishtail braid! As long as you pull your hair tightly together it will stay, and it’s easy to do.

  • Use a clear elastic band to pull your hair into a low, side ponytail
  • Separate the ponytail into two sections
  •  Bring a piece of hair from the right side over to the left, then from the left side to the right, crossing it over
  • Continue with this method to all the way down until the braid it is finished. (If you are having trouble, check out this tutorial)
  • Secure your braid with a rubber band at the bottom and cut the elastic at the top of the ponytail
  • Spritz some hairspray all over your up-do and you’ll be good to go! (Photo credit: Danielle Style)

The “Half-up” Do
If you like to wear your hair down when you go out, but you are worried about it pestering your face, this half-up-do style is perfect for you! This look is similar to the fishtail braid, except you won’t be braiding all the way down to the end of your hair. This look only requires a few affordable and basic tools: bobby pins, your comb, and some hairspray! Most importantly, Make sure that your hair is straight before starting this.

To accomplish this look:

  • Spray your hair with hairspray so it will be more managable to work with
  • Tease your hair (directions for teasing can be found under the previous style)
  • Grab a thin layer of hair from each side of your head just above your ear and separate it into two pieces
  • Take the piece from the left side and bring it under the right, and do the opposite for the right side.
  • Fold your hair to the middle of your head and bring the pieces together.
  • Secure with bobby pins either to the left or to right.

Hairspray all over, finish your makeup, get dressed, check yourself out in the mirror (we all know we do it!) and enjoy your night out! (Photo credit: my yellow sandbox)
