One of my newest favorite trends came from TikTok creator Brett Chody (Brett’s Bites (@brettsbites) | TikTok).  She has created the trending “dessert bowl” snack that has got people so excited to make a sweet treat at the end of the day.  What is a “dessert bowl” you may be wondering?  A dessert bowl is simply a bowl full of all the snacks and ingredients that you may be craving at the end of the day.  It can be whatever you want it to be.  Something salty, something sweet, something crunchy, something sour, the creative freedom is endless.

The key to a dessert bowl is variety, the more snacks you add the better. Brett suggests starting with a salty base, something such as popcorn, pretzels, or anything with a bit of salt and crunch.  The next snack she often suggests adding is something with some chocolate, maybe chocolate chips, chocolate-covered pretzels, the brand Lily’s Chocolate is a fan favorite for her.  Next, she often suggests adding gummy candy, maybe some fruit snacks, or gummy bears, whatever your heart desires.  Those tend to be the main ingredients that Brett recommends in her bowl, however, she encourages you to add whatever you may be craving or in the mood for.  The more variety in your dessert bowl, the better it will be.  It’s fun to add a couple of these, a few of that, a handful of those, and really just go with that mindset when crafting up your dessert bowl.

Some of my personal favorites to add to my dessert bowls are popcorn, chocolate-covered pretzels, mini peanut butter cups, and whatever sour gummy candy I have in my pantry.  Trader Joe’s is always a great spot to find some fun new snacks to add to your dessert bowls.  Some of T.J. ‘s infamous snacks that I have added to my dessert bowls are crunchy curls (great for a salty base), Scandinavian Swimmers (I like the sour ones best), and dark chocolate-covered pretzels (the best of both worlds, salty and sweet).  These are just some of my personal favorites but I always like to switch up what I add to my bowl.  It is so fun to try new combinations of snacks and the dessert bowl trend is the perfect way to do so.

Merrimack '24

I am a senior studying Criminology & Criminal Justice with a double minor in Marketing and Political Science. I am from Boston, MA and enjoying getting to travel! I play club softball at my college and have been involved with athletics for my whole life. I love to bake, go on walks, and spend time with friends and family. I joined HerCampus to learn and hear from other writers across my own campus as well as others, and try something a bit outside my comfort zone. The ideas and topics that are written by other authors have been very interesting and I look forward to seeing all the creativity that people have used. I believe that creative writing is a great form of expression and I am looking forward to seeing the launch of Merrimack's chapter of HerCampus this year!
