Cherry Blossom Festival – It’s awesome and you should go!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mercer chapter.

Spring is making its way onto Mercer’s campus and so is Macon’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival. To some, the festival is just another cash cow of a carnival placed downtown for two weeks to draw crowds and draw in some mula. I had the opportunity to attend the festival for the very first time and was pleasantly surprised.
My first reaction: Holy carnival! If you are craving a slightly different approach to fun, then I highly recommend stopping by. The festival is full of carnival goods, including the yummy and oftentimes overwhelming food selection. After facing my fears and taste testing some funnel cake, a chili-cheese dog and even a giant turkey leg, the food definitely got my seal of approval.
The festival also provides the attendee with an assortment of carnival games and rides. Though I did not opt to ride “the Cyclops” or any of the rides that looked daunting, they did indeed provide a beautiful colored light show in the night sky. The most spectacular fixture was the giant ferris wheel lit up for all to see. Even if you don’t like carnival rides, I recommend going just to see the beautiful nightscape.
If you are hesitant about going to the festival like I was, don’t be. The festival is truly one-of-a-kind. A carnival that serves frozen pink margaritas and has live music? Sound like a fun place to be. So this year, grab your friends, grab your Macon pride and head down to the Cherry Blossom Festival. You won’t be disappointed.
