Why Country Music Should be on Your Playlist this Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McMaster chapter.

Country music: as divisive as pineapple on pizza. Personally, I love country music. There are love songs, sad songs and motivational songs – something for everyone. I truly believe you should give country music a chance.

Some of my favourite country artists are Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Luke Combs and Zac Brown Band. They create genuine and heartfelt music, with catchy songs that make me want to dance and smile. The following songs are some of my favourites. They are happy, fun and perfect to add to your playlist for the summertime!

House Party by Sam Hunt

This is a classic, upbeat country song that will surely get everyone singing along. It’s a mix between country and pop which makes it a great introduction to the genre. As the name suggests, it’s best enjoyed at a house party with your friends!

Life Changes by Thomas Rhett

Thomas Rhett’s songs often tell beautiful stories of special moments in his life. This one is worth listening to the words closely as he recounts his unexpected rise to fame and starting his family. This song encourages people to live in the moment because you never know when life will change!

Heartache on the Dancefloor by Jon Pardi

Lastly, my #1 country song, the one that got me hooked. I saw this song performed in concert and I definitely shed a couple tears. It’s all about summer romance and makes me feel all warm inside. Listen to it on full blast in the car with the windows down on a warm summer day, and you’ll be hooked too.

Even if you doubt you would like country music, give it a try. If you listen to a few songs, you might change your mind! If you want to listen to my country playlist on Spotify, you can find it here. I hope it makes your summer a little brighter!
