It Starts With Us: The Long Anticipated Sequel Has Just Been Announced

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McMaster chapter.

Attention all readers! It Ends With Us, a romance novel we have all read and loved, is officially getting a sequel called It Starts With Us. For anyone who knows me, you will not be hearing the end of this. This sequel has been long anticipated by Colleen Hoover fans and hopefully, it’ll deliver exactly what we wanted. Thus far, the reaction on social media has been nothing but excitement to finally be able to see Lily and Atlas get the happy ending they deserve.

In It Ends With Us, we experienced a heart-wrenching story about Lily meeting the right person at the wrong time. When she was a teenager, she fell in love with a homeless boy, Atlas, whom she took care of during the harsh winter season. Unfortunately, he ended up leaving town to alleviate the tension their relationship created between Lily and her parents. When Lily is older, we see her fall in love with Ryle, a man she first met and connected with on a rooftop. Spoiler alert, as their relationship dwindled, Atlas re-entered her life. Every reader, including myself, couldn’t hold back the tears when we were able to witness these two finally rekindle their childhood romance.

As of now, what we know about the upcoming novel is that we’ll be seeing Atlas and Lily’s relationship from the former’s perspective and on a much deeper level. The only hint we’ve gotten so far, from Hoover herself, is that this novel is “a sequel with prequel feels.” There are a lot of speculations on what this could mean. Some believe the story will be the same story as the first but from his perspective, while others believe we’ll get to see his perspective but also the future of their relationship. Ultimately, as much as the audience wants to read fluff, meaning events that don’t dramatically change the story, knowing Hoover, we should be expecting a lot of angst. Many readers are also keeping their fingers crossed that after reading Atlas’ perspective, our opinion about him won’t change. Lastly, we might also get to see Ryle in this story so it’ll be really interesting to see how the story will play out with him in it.

Ultimately, Colleen Hoover is one of my favourite authors and I’m sure many others will agree. Her style of storytelling is unmatched and every single time I read her work, I feel like it’s better than the last. Even though I have high expectations for this novel, I know I won’t be disappointed.

This novel will be released on October 18th, 2022, meaning there are still another 8 months until we can get our hands on a copy. Until then, if you haven’t had the opportunity to read It End With Us, you should definitely take this time to do so. If you have already read it, Colleen Hoover has recently released a brilliant novel called Reminders of Him that made me sob like there’s no tomorrow. If you would like to read a Colleen Hoover novel that’s a little different than her typical romance story, you should definitely check out Verity, a psychological thriller that left me pondering for multiple days.
