Halloween Haute: Styling Aritzia Pieces Into Spooktacular Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McMaster chapter.

As a former Style Advisor at Aritzia, fall was my favourite time of year to style clients. From leather jackets to chunky knit sweaters, fall fashion has never failed to impress. What’s even more exciting this year around? Halloween (my favourite holiday)! With pieces you may already own in your closet, or can repurpose for day-to-day looks, Aritzia is the perfect place to shop!

Don’t know where to start? Don’t worry! I have curated five costume lookbooks to inspire you. Simply click the listed costume name and it will take you to a Pinterest board with the look! Feel free to use these as inspiration or as your entire costume. Mix and match similar styles and play around with different colours!

1. Ballerina Off-Duty

“Ballerina-core” is going viral online right now. Halloween is the perfect time to put to use that impulsive “keeping up with the trends” purchase you just made (or have been trying to make an excuse to make). This simple Halloween costume screams Coquette aesthetic that some people may not understand, but the ones who get it, get it.

  • What you’ll need: body suit (pink or black), wrap knit sweater, flared leggings, headband, slippers/mini fur boots, scrunch crew socks
  • Optional Accessories: ballet flats, hair bows, wrap skirt (instead of leggings), tights

Shop the lookbook:  Snow Bunny Headband, EMU Boots, Scrunch Ankle Socks, All Tied Up Sweater, TnaBUTTER™ Pointe Leotard, High-Rise Flare Leggings

2. Tennis Player

Basic? Maybe…cute? Definitely. Want to hear something even better? You probably already own half of these pieces. If you don’t already, you can definitely repurpose them for the gym…or maybe for that tennis lesson you always wanted to try out (it’s never too late to pick up a new hobby).

  • What you’ll need: workout top/bra, athletic zip-up jacket, tennis skirt, running shoes/tennis shoes, crew length socks
  • Optional accessories: tennis racket, baseball cap/tennis visor

Shop the Lookbook: Mini Bra Top, Tennis Skirt, ASICS Runners, Black Zip up, Black Baseball Cap, Green Zip Up, LA Didgers Baseball Cap

3. Uma Thurman (Pulp FictioN)

Uma Thurman played an iconic Mia Wallace in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. This costume is super simple and super cute! The best part is that these pieces are staples to your wardrobe and can definitely be repurposed for office.

  • What you’ll need: white button down, black dress pants, black bra
  • Optional Accessories: black bob wig with bangs, prop cigarettes

Shop the Lookbook: Utility Shirt Button Down, Monterey Lace Bralette, Agency Cropped Pant

4. Men in Black

Here come the women in black! You can finally put that blazer to use with your favourite contour bodysuit (one of my favourite pieces from Aritzia) and you have a Men in Black inspired costume!

  • What you’ll need: black blazer, white body suit or white dress shirt, black dress pants or black skirt, black boots
  • Optional Accessories: black tie, black sunglasses, inflatable alien

Shop the Look Book: Concept Blazer, Effortless Dress Pants, Contour Square Neck Body Suit

5. Rory Gilmore (Academia Core)

“What do you need? Hot tea? Coffee?”  “No… Lip Gloss.” For all you Gilmore Girls fans, you know the Rory Gilmore-coded style is perfect for fall. Style these pieces together to curate the best “school-girl” outfit in town and build a fall wardrobe capsule while doing so!

  • What you’ll need: turtleneck, chunky knit sweater, plaid skirt, stockings, or knee-high socks
  • Optional: headband, tie, black ballet flats

Shop the Look Book: Micro Pleated Skirt, Sunday Best Freshman Turtleneck, Sunday Best Peggy Sweater, Snow Bunny Headband

Whether you’re going for the “ballerina off-duty” look or stepping out as icon Mia Wallace, this article guarantees two things: you’ll be the belle of the Halloween ball and you’ll be re-wearing these pieces all fall. So revamp your wardrobe, sprinkle some Halloween spirit, and let’s get this (fashion) party started! Happy Halloween!
