Winter 2017/18: This Season’s Hottest Trends That Will Keep You Warm & Toasty

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

The leaves have changed colour, days have gotten shorter, and jackets have started to get thicker. Brace yourselves – winter is coming. For all the fashionistas out there, Montreal winter brings a huge dilemma: whether to sacrifice looking cute and cozy, or to sacrifice warmth so you can wear your new Zara coat that definitely doesn’t protect you from the harsh wind and snow. But this winter, you won’t need to sacrifice anything – Her Campus is here to show you latest winter trends that will be sure to keep you warm and toasty.

Berets:

When growing up, my dad always told me to keep my head covered during the winter. I always dismissed this advice because I couldn’t find any cute winter hats that would go with my outfits. If this sounds all too similar, I have the solution for you: berets. You can see Gigi and Bella Hadid rocking berets in their Instagram photos, and it’s clear that this year, berets have made a huge comeback. They add a touch of the classic Parisian style, automatically making your outfit seem more stylish and sophisticated.Checkered print:

The ultimate pattern for this winter season is definitely checkered print. We see checkered pants, coats, and dresses filling up the clothing racks of basically any clothing store. Whether you opt for a bold, vibrant checkered print clothing or a more muted, elegant checkered print, style it with a cozy, plain turtleneck and add a beret to complete your classic, stylish look.

Oversized coats:

While a good Canada Goose jacket can help you endure the long, cold winter days, we can all agree it’s not the most stylish jacket in the world. That’s why this winter season, I went out on a mission to find myself a long, thick oversized coat. These coats are very functional since they go with literally any outfit – they go with any of your fancier outfits but also with more casual looks, and it will instantly vamp up your style. The oversized look can make anyone look effortlessly chic – it also means that you can layer lots of things underneath for that extra bit of warmth.

Fashion is all about experimentation, finding out what works for you and what doesn’t. If you try out these trends and find they just aren’t you, remember these are just trends. They come and go, but they’re good ways to find an excuse to experiment and step out of your comfort zone. So what are you waiting for? Go out to Zara, H&M, Urban Outfitters and go try on your beret!
