With finals less than a week away, there are two things every McGill student wants right now: good grades and sleep. While not much can be done to answer the prayers for good grades other than studying, many students are turning to coffee to lessen the side effects of sleep deprivation. Tim Hortons has been a fan favorite for coffee addicts struggling through finals for literally decades. So, many students were horrified when their beloved coffee franchise was removed from the cafeteria in Redpath Library. They have been forced to either drink other coffee brands or trudge through the harsh winter weather conditions to the nearest Timmies. Here are a list of the reasons why Tim Hortons needs to be returned to Redpath as soon as possible.

1.      It’s a Canadian Symbol. Tim Hortons is an international symbol of Canada. McGill is also an international symbol of Canada. It is only fitting that we should have a representation of Canadian heritage feeding and caffeinating the students of our Canadian University.

2.      It’s Cheap. Let’s face it, pretty much every student is on a budget of some sorts. Students can’t afford to purchase expensive cups of coffee, no matter how fancy or authentic it may be. All students care about during finals is their ability to stay awake long enough to look through all the lecture slides. Tim Hortons offers inexpensive coffee and other treats to satisfy one’s budget and cravings.

3.      It’s Convenient. When Tim Hortons was located in the cafeteria of Redpath it was only a couple flights of stairs for students to get from their studying places to it. Having a Timmies so close means that it’s not taking away valuable studying time from students, as opposed to when they have to walk outside the building to the nearest one.

4.      Donuts Make Everyone Feel Better. Although there may be no scientific evidence to back this up, almost everyone would agree that a donut can make the saddest student smile, even if just for a second. Eating notorious amounts of sugary goods during stressful times is known to be a coping mechanism.  Donuts are tasty, affordable, and come in various sizes and flavors. Tim Hortons also has other pastries and treats for those who may prefer something different.

5.      It Offers Various Forms of Coffee. Hot coffee, iced coffee, mocha, iced frappucino, espresso shots; Tim Hortons has it all. There are so many options of caffeinated beverages that students never get bored while getting their caffeine fix. Making sure that there are various forms of caffeinated beverages available on hand is key to ensuring students are able to write all those final papers they left until the last minute.

6.      It Offers Options for Non-Coffee Drinkers Too. There are (surprisingly) some people who will resist the urge to drink coffee. Tim Hortons also provides options for those individuals too. Tea, hot chocolate, juices, or even decaf coffee are all on hand for those who don’t want a coffee rush.

The Tim Hortons in Redpath offered drink and food choices to all types of struggling, studying students who didn’t have to leave the library to get their coffee fix. Studying at the library will never be the same until Tim Hortons is restored to its rightful glory.
