Trends from London and New York Fashion Weeks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

London Fashion Week recently wrapped up along with its New York cousin, so Her Campus McGill decided to check out what’s in store for fall for our fashionable collegiettes. We saw some styles that are cool (in the literal sense), some that are interesting and some that are downright wacky. Will you dare to try one of these trends?

Fur in Patches

Furs have definitely maintained their standing on the fashion runway, except this time they are bigger and bolder. Check out the array of colours in each piece. This makes us wonder about the transition from runway to street style, but we’re sure everyone needs that purse muff from BCBG.

Rad Sportswear

Everyone was craving a pair of Nike runners last season and it seemed like the iconic sports shoes have stretched their influence to the runway. Many designers put a fun twist on what you might wear to the gym, adding interesting textiles and bright colours. However, who would be brave enough to wear haute couture to the gym? These pieces are certainly too beautiful to sweat on.

Blast from The Past

Next season will welcome back knee-length skirts and womanly silhouettes. These designs are reminescent of the 1940s and certainly take a turn from the sheer trends of last season. The pieces prove that you don’t need to show skin to be seductive. Each silhouette hugs and takes its own sensual stride.

Shiny and New

In the dark and cold days of winter 2014, why not add a little sparkle to brighten things up? Or a lot of sparkle. The runways show an affinity for metallics this season. They prove that this textile is not simply for club wear and add an air of lightness and sophistication to each piece. The models almost look like icicles.

Tartan Sauce

Plaid was definitely a trend last season and it seems that the designers have expanded the concept by checking everything. These colours are oddly playful and in pastels, making them look like more S/S than F/W. The lightness of the tartan adds an element of youth to the collection and puts a spin on the school girl look. What do you think? Are you ready to go back to grade school in grunge?
