Meet the Girls of Her Campus McGill: An Introduction to Our Team

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

So you see a link every once in a while from Her Campus on Facebook for an interesting article, and you click on it. Perhaps, you’ve clicked to read several Her Campus articles before. Maybe you even check in on the website regularly to see what’s new. But have you ever wondered about the extraordinary girls behind these articles?

It’s easy to glance at an author’s name, and not really think much of it. Having just recently joined the HC McGill Team myself, I’ve already met so many kind and intelligent people here, and I believe everyone should be able to get to know our team. Several of the girls have told us about themselves, their position at HC, and why they joined Her Campus in the first place.

Well ladies (and gentlemen), without further ado, here is a small introduction to some of the wonderfully talented and dedicated women who work to put out these articles for Her Campus at McGill University.

Ashley Memjie

U0

Faculty of Arts

Writer

I have a passion for writing.

Angel Yu

U3

Double major Physiology and Computer Science

Writer, Editor, VP Events

I’ve been involved with Her Campus since high school because I love the idea of an online magazine aimed at university aged women. I think it’s great that we cover so many topics, both serious and fun, and that the ultimate goal of Her Campus is to provide women with a fun place and support at university.

Britt Burlis

U0

Psychology/Pre Med

Writer

I joined her campus to make McGill seem smaller and to gain a sense of community not only with other girls at McGill, but also with other girls in university around the world (and mostly in the states- where I am from!)

Catherine Ke

Second year

Honours Linguistics

Writer, Editor, VP Social Media

I love to write, I love sharing my ideas with people and Her Campus was an amazing platform for me to do that. The one thing I was extremely proud of was interviewing and writing a piece on the girl that shadowed Prime Minister Trudeau for a day, I was terrified but it turned out to be the best article I had ever written.

Claire Butler

Fourth year

Pharmacology

Writer

I joined Her Campus because I always loved reading the variety of articles they shared, and knew it would be the perfect platform for me to express myself through.

Claire Suisman

U2

Psychology

Writer, VP Advertising

I joined Her Campus because I enjoy writing and have many ideas I’d like to share with the world. I’m passionate about mental health, psychology, cooking, sustainability, and social justice. I hope to be able to reach others with similar interests.

Clara Séguin

U2

Teaching English as a Second Language

Writer

Because I love writing, I was already writing online last year and I thought writing for one of the McGill papers or magazine would be a great new experience; Her Campus was the one that provided me with the most freedom so I decided to write for them.

Gabrielle Lee Gabauer

U3

Anthropology

Campus Correspondent

I love to write, and Her Campus gave me the space to do that in a super freeing space, and make some amazing friends along the way!

Huirui Zhang

First Year

Arts

Writer

It’s a fun club to meet amazing student editors and a media to express myself.

Katya Conrad

U2

Philosophy and Art History

Writer

I had a friend on the team who loved it and recommended it to me!

Kelsey Smolash

U2

Physiology

Writer

I used to really enjoy writing and since starting university, I found I hadn’t been anymore. I joined Her Campus as a way of writing again and to express my thoughts and creativity in a fun and light-hearted way through the articles I write.

Lauren Ballard

I loved reading Her Campus before I came to McGill, and when I saw the table at Activities Night I wanted to give it a try! It’s been a great experience & I love having my work published online.

I used to read it all the time and thought it was super helpful. I love writing and reading blogs so I think it’s super cool to be a part of it.

Michelle Shen

Third Year

I jumped at the chance to try something new but have always wanted to try (I’ve never really written before)! After reading through so many articles on my own, I thought it would be cool to try writing them too. Plus, I got to meet a few super cool people through Her Campus.

Pia Maria Abu-Mikhael

I always used to read Her Campus while I was in high school! I obviously love writing, and I knew that I had to be a part of the tight-knit community that Her Campus creates between people all around the world, whether they are in College or not.

Sooji Hah

I joined HC because I love expressing my thoughts, feelings and interests through writing. I knew Her Campus would be the perfect platform to do so since I feel like a lot of the readers are able to relate and connect with my articles!

Sophia Perring

I’ve always loved writing and wanted to get involved this year. Her Campus appealed to me in that it is a super friendly group of strong women coming together.

Stephanie Sim

I initially joined Her Campus as a creative outlet to grow and improve my writing, and quickly learned to love the platform it gave me to share my voice on topics that I loved. Not only that but it got me involved with a talented group of girls whose writing I constantly learn through.

Val Namaki

U3

Writer

I’ve always loved writing, and I found Her Campus to be such a great opportunity not only to write, but to write about things I’m passionate for an audience I feel personally connected to!

Zeynep Kartal

U2

Cultural Studies

Writer, Editor, Facebook page manager

I always loved writing and I’m very passionate about feminism, so a website that combined both of these things seemed ideal. Later, I found out it was actually so much more than that. Her Campus is a supportive community of incredible girls that manage to put together amazing articles each week. I’m really glad I put down my email at Activities Night one year ago because I always find myself looking forward to reading what everyone wrote for that week when I’m editing articles on a Sunday night.

So there you have it: the faces behind the articles. Hopefully you enjoyed learning a bit about girls from Her Campus at McGill!
