Fourth Year Diaries: Valentine’s Drinks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

Happy February collegiettes! While this second month of the year means we are one step closer to graduation, and out of this frigid winter season, it also means that we must face the dreaded day filled with chocolate, hearts, and cupid: Valentine’s Day. I am sure that many of you lovely ladies have a special someone to spend this day with, and while my date for the evening isn’t of the male variety, I can’t wait to spend the night drinking with my roommate. Sitting at home wallowing in our single status may be a little too Bridget Jones-y for my taste, and this is why I’ve made a list of fun spots to visit on Valentine’s Day night.

Candi Bar

Located at 1148 Avenue du Mont-Royal Est, Candi Bar is a bit of a hike north of the McGill ghetto, but totally worth it. This bar is a great spot to go with a group of friends for fun, candy-themed drinks. The decorations of the bar make it feel as if you are sitting in a grown-up candy store, offering drinks named after various candies and slushy flavours!

Distillerie

I’m sure everyone at McGill has visited Distillerie at one point, and if you haven’t it should be added to your to do list! The hype about the mason jar drinks at this bar (at 3 different locations) is totally justified; having been to Distillerie at least once a year since first year I’ve tried a range of the drinks offered and have never been disappointed, although personally I’d recommend the Hurricane or Yellow Submarine. This bar is much more casual, making it easy to bundle up and walk to without worrying about wearing heels and a skirt in mid-February winter weather.

Wine Bar

This item is a bit of a cheat because while I’ve never been to any wine bars in Montreal, I’ve heard of tons of great ones to try: Furco, Pullman, and Bar Plan B. What could be more romantic than sitting in a dimly lit room with your best girlfriend sipping on a big glass of Merlot?
