Balancing school, work, sleep, having a life, and the fact that every single time you turn on the news it makes you want to cry can take a toll on a person. So it’s important to put aside some time for yourself to engage in a little selfcare. While that means something different for everybody, for me, it means watching TV and letting myself get lost in another world for a few hours. Here are 5 TV shows I swear by:

1. The Good Place

Between Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, what more could you possibly want? This show is a perfect combination of serious & funny as it explores the afterlife, with plot twists leaving you speechless at every turn. A great way to unwind while also trying to figure out if you’re in the Bad Place at this very moment.

2. Riverdale

Teenagers solving murders while hanging out at vintage diners and sporting the latest trends? Think Gossip Girl meets Pretty Little Liars: an iconic mix. It can be a little extra at times, but you have to just lean into it and enjoy the ride. The extremely attractive men and hardcore girl power don’t hurt either.  There’s always a mystery to solve in Riverdale, so take this post as your weekly reminder to go catch up!

3. How to Get Away with Murder

When I was younger I considered becoming a lawyer. Later on, I sort of moved on from it because honestly it felt like a lot of paperwork and I’d rather just play a lawyer on TV. But this show puts a whole new spin on the profession, blurring the lines between lawyer and criminal, with a healthy mix of murder mysteries, justice, and love stories. Also, Viola Davis plays Annalise so I don’t know what other explanation is needed here honestly.

4. The Resident

This show is a bit newer, having just started its second season. There’s limited room for new shows on my roster most years, but this one made the cut pretty easily. Starring Emily Van Camp from Revenge and Matt Czuchry from only the greatest show ever aka Gilmore Girls (Rory’s perfect match was Logan don’t @ me), this show delves into the complexities of the medical world, bringing a lot of ethical questions into play.

5. Bob’s Burgers

That list got a little serious in the middle, so naturally, I’m closing it off with a hilarious animation classic. For those times where you just want to unwind and laugh until you can’t breathe anymore, this show following Bob & his family is the perfect fit. Tag yourself – I’m Louise.

So as the sun sets earlier and the weather gets colder, don’t forget to take some time to unwind, because even if you don’t feel like you deserve it, you do.
