As Alpha Sigma Psi’s recruitment starts, it’s important to remember some of the Dos and Don’ts of recruitment.

Dos

Do…Bring a Good Attitude and a Smile

A smile and an open mind will go a long way during recruitment.  The process is a fun and exciting experience with many opportunities for growth.  Staying positive and being able to let go and have fun will make the experience one to remember.

Do… Wear an outfit you are confident and comfortable in

No one likes to be in an outfit that doesn’t make them feel and look their best inside and out.  Wear a nice outfit that showcases your personality and your sense of style.  Always make sure you are comfortable so you can totally focus on the recruitment experience.

Do…Bring Questions and Conversation Starters

The sisters in the sorority want to hear what you have to say.  Whether it is talking about the great new show you are watching on Netflix or asking questions about our philanthropies, we are always excited to talk with you.  The more you talk to us and tell us about yourself, the easier it will be for the current and future sisters to get to know you!

Do…Bring a few essentials

They should definitely sell recruitment survival kits.  My top 5 things you should bring in your survival kit are a pen, gum, a notebook, a snack (especially if you had a 3 hour night class before recruitment), and any makeup you know you want to touch up before (this is really optional).  It is always smart to bring a small tote filled with your own personal essentials!

Do…Be your true and authentic self

The point of recruitment is to get to know you.  We all want to see the real you even if that means seeing your flaws.  Some of the most wonderful girls I’ve ever known showed us their strengths and weaknesses and they are the best sisters I could have ever asked for.  Sisterhood means you support someone through the good times and the bad times.

Don’ts

Don’t…. have a negative attitude

A negative attitude is the easiest way to turn off what could be your future sisters.  It looks bad on you and you will not be memorable for all of the right reasons.

Don’t…. get distracted or outshined by your friends

By all means come with your friends to recruitment, but don’t get lost in your friend group.  Recruitment is about finding the best sisterhood for YOU and not your entire friend group.  Learn how to stick out and be unique.

Don’t…. say hurtful or demeaning comments about other PNMs, yourself, or any other sorority

Your mom was right when she said “If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all”.  Everything you say has a meaning and a consequence.  Always avoid gossip and hurtful comments.

Don’t…forget that this experience is a growing process and it might not turn out the way you think it will

At the end of the week you may not get into the sorority.  However, this is an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.  There is a lid for every pot, so one sorority may not be the right fit, but another sorority or club could be the right fit for you!

See you all at recruitment!
