5 Entertainment Memoirs for the Collegiette

Although time to read in college is scarce, every collegiette could use to take some advice from Hollywood’s best and brightest. Whether they work on camera or behind the lens, these five ladies inspire with their tales of perserverance and passion for this industry. Happy reading, collegiettes!

1. Yes Please by Amy Poehler: Funny woman and  Parks and Recreation star, Amy Poehler proves that she is just as funny on paper as she is on screen. Yes Please is not only the title of her book but also the motto she lives her live based on. Featuring tales of her childhood, lists of ideas and proposals and tales from her time in the spotlight from Upright Citizens Brigade and beyond. 

2. Wildflower by Drew Barrymore: Growing up in the spotlight after starring in E.T., Drew Barrymore’s Wildflower shows the progression of a Hollywood icon. Living on her own at fourteen, Barrymore’s trials and tribulations are documented in a neat way. Wildflower is an excellent reminder of the power of individual spirit and the comeback story.

3. Bossypants by Tina Fey: SNL alum, Tina Fey discusses life before and after the spotlight. Her tales of growing up socially awkward are relatable to everyone. Every page is filled with laughs and you will not be able to put this book down!

4. The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes: Hollywood heavy weight, Shonda Rhimes is the creater of Greys Anatomy and Scandal. But more than that she represents a famous person who truly is not looking for fame. Rhimes reflects on how saying yes changed her life and can change yours too a reminder that every collegiette could use.

 

5. Unsinkable by Debbie Reynolds: The sequel to her first memoir, Debbie: My Life, Reynolds reflects on her time in Hollywood’s Golden Age. Additionally she discusses life with her two children and her friendship with Elizabeth Taylor. Unsinkable provides a rare glimpse into live during the Golden Age of Film.

Alexandra Goebelbecker is a senior Advertising and Public Relations Major with a Comprehensive Social Science Minor. She co-founded Her Campus Marywood in April 2015 with McKensie Curnow. She makes up 1/2 of political column, Back to Back with co-author, Anna Notchick. In addition she is an intern at Condron Media, Student Activities Shadow, President of service sorority, Alpha Sigma Psi, Vice President of Marywood's Chapter of PRSSA and AAF, and LYM Campus Crew Member.
