3 Simple Rules for Your Most Fashionable V-Day Yet!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marymount chapter.

Whether you love it, or you love to hate it, the day of hearts, chocolate, and obnoxious-ly cute couples is upon us. You know what I’m talkin’ bout! Valentine’s Day, of course! For me personally, I love any excuse to dress festive and V-day is the perfect opportunity! Whether you’ll be spending your Valentine’s Day with your man, out with your girlfriends, or having a DIY/baking/rom-com movie binging night in, these fashion rules are applicable to all. FYI: Much pink, red, and hearts are ahead. You have been warned. <3

1.)  Don’t Be Afraid to Mix PINKS and REDS

There are some colors on the color wheel that should just NOT be friends, pink and red being two of them. However, this only applies 364 days out of the year. Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to step out of your color comfort zone and rock both of the hues that scream L-O-V-E!

2.)  Hearts are ALWAYS a Good Thing

If you’re not comfortable being so bold with your color choices, any kind of heart accent you add to your outfit will give a festive aura without causing you to look like a walking Hallmark card. Whether it be heart-adorned sweaters, tights, shoes, or pants, the possibilities are endless! The great thing about pieces such as these is that they can be worn all throughout the year but look especially festive for a V-day ensemble.

3.)  Make Subtle, Festive Changes to a Basic Outfit

You may be one to always play it safe when it comes to fashion and have no desire to dress differently just because it’s a holiday. However, if you’re feeling daring and want to add a little pizazz to your style, any kind of subtle change that you make will really stand out and make a bold statement. For example, a pink scarf thrown over a basic outfit, a red lip to add a pop of color to your white tee and jeans, a Valentine-inspired mani, or a cute hair bow will give you the look you want while still sticking to your personal style.

Whatever your plans may be for February 14th, be sure to spend them with people you love and try to have a little fun when it comes to your V-Day style! XOXO <3
