Style Blog: De-Winterizing Your Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

As March comes to a close, we can (hopefully) say so long to the days of snow and cold breezes and hello to the sunshine and cherry blossoms! This is the time of year where everyone starts to shed their parkas and trade their wool for chiffon. The weather change can be an awkward one though, especially here in Maryland. There can be days where it’s sunny and sixty-five and the next having a chance of snow showers, and it can get a bit aggravating. Here are some ideas to help fight the frustration when it comes to your wardrobe!

  1. Toss the Tights- One of my personal favorite articles of clothing during the spring-time is the sundress. These dresses don’t always look so hot with tights or leggings though and without the warmth aspect of legwear a sundress can be hard to pull off in the early spring months. Don’t fret though! If you pair it with you’re reliable riding boots and a lighter weight jacket you’re all set!
  2. Wrap Yourself Up- A great way to stay warm in the crisp spring air is a scarf. When it comes to scarves, you have so many options with colors and weights of fabric so they are no doubt a great way to accessorize for spring while you stay snuggled up. Claire McCord, a sophomore here at University of Maryland says, “I love adding a bright scarf to a light sweater for the spring. That way, if it’s chilly I’ll still be warm all while having a classic springtime look.”
  3. Switch Up Your Hair- If the weather has got you confused on what to wear, there is one spring trend that won’t fail you. Sections of color! This year your wardrobe isn’t the only place you can find a hint of neon, now you can add it to your hair. Seventeen Magazine’s Kara McGrath says, “If you’re not ready for a permanent commitment to hot pink locks, hair chalking is an awesome alternative to traditional dying.”
  4. Add a Trench- We all know the saying, “April showers bring May flowers,” and for the most part it does tend to rain a lot during the spring time! A great way to avoid the “just-got-poured-on” look is to add a trench coat to any outfit. The trench is an iconic spring piece that will never go out of style so don’t be afraid to break yours in this season.

These aren’t the only ways to spice up your style for the upcoming season but it can get you started!
