Hot Boots for a Cold Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Now that November has arrived, sandal season is officially over! While the changing weather of October has allowed for some flip-flop wearing, boots are now in season. Although it may be convenient to resort to your broken-in, sheepskin Uggs for everyday use, why not experiment with this season’s new styles?

I am personally a huge Uggs fan, and have loved the brand of boots ever since freshman year of high school. In fact, last week I was contemplating buying another pair. However, I came to the conclusion that it was time to change up my shoe selection after seeing a number of girls walk across campus with a variation of boot styles that I have been drooling over.

I made the decision of purchasing a pair of dark brown leather knee-high riding boots that is actually as comfortable as my Uggs. Although I love those warm chestnut-colored boots, I will admit that I love the feeling of being original wearing another style. Are you stuck in the sheepskin boot phase and are ready to experiment with new boots too?

Make a heat wave through the wintery campus with these hot boot styles:

Combat

The combat style, inspired by military footwear, is a big trend for this season! Once associated with the goth/punk feel, these shoes can now be worn with many looks. Stick with the traditional black combat boots to add an edgy vibe to your outfit – pair with torn jeans or a cool graphic T-shirt. Want more of a neutral look? Combat boots in brown have a more feminine feel and go with almost anything, including floral dresses. These Wanted Forge Boots are available in brown and black and have an unexpected suede upper that gives off a funky feel:

Fold Over

Make a bold statement with these boots! What I love about fold-overs is that there are two ways to wear them. You can unfold the cuff for daring thigh-high boots, or you can choose to fold the cuff for classic knee-high boots. Your choice! Urbanog.com has stylish suede fold-overs with a slouch detail:

Wedge Booties

Remember how popular wedge sandals and platforms were during the summer? The height hype of the wedge is back for winter! For those of you not feeling boots with skinny heels, wedge boots are the perfect substitute – they give you vertical inches, and are more supportive. Go wild with Steve Madden’s leopard print booties, perfect for a night out:

Riding

These classic leather knee-high boots are not only for equestrians to wear. They add a touch of sophistication with almost any outfit. I like to wear these with fitted jeans and a white button down shirt – the boots transform a plain outfit like this into a stylish one. Makemechic.com have affordable riding boots with cute crown buttons on the side:
