This summer I found myself with a lot of downtime. One day while perusing down the aisles of my neighborhood CVS I spotted a particularly awesome shade of blue. Upon further inspection I read the bottle and saw that Essie called it mint candy apple. This color started my summer obsession with nail polish. As I began to research fun and exciting ways to do my nails I realized that I was not the only one who had hopped on the trendy nail express, there were a lot of Youtube videos to look through and posted below are two of my favorites that I thought were easy to do and looked awesome!

The Ombre Overload

This manicure will allow you to combine two colors to look like one is fading into the other in classic ombre fashion. To complete this stellar look all you will need is white nail polish, two colors you would like to combine, nail polish remover, and a make-up sponge. I also recommend making a fun play list with some mellow music that is good for nail painting.

Step 1) Paint two coats of your nails with the white nail polish and make sure the polish dries completely before you continue.

Step 2) Take your make up sponge and cut it in half. Shape the nail sponge so the base fits well on your nail.

Step 3)Paint both colors onto the make-up sponge so it looks like two stripes on the sponge.

Step 4) Blot that sponge slowly onto your nail, repeat this step until the color is noticeable, you will need to reapply the paint to the nail polish sponge.

Step 5) Residue of the nail polish is expected so after the manicure is completed, clean up the nail with nail polish remover to make it perfect.

Step 6) Apply a clear coat of nail polish to increase the effect of the ombre. Apply a fun rhinestone to add a touch of flare to your already awesome manicure.

The Terrific Tape Maneuver

In case you do not have a make up sponge lying around, you probably have to use some scotch tape. Once I saw this trick on the internet, I didn’t believe it could be so easy to do. After easily applying it to my own nails I wanted to recommend the trick to all collegiettes. What you will need for this manicure is scotch tape, two nail polish colors, and a clear top coat. I also recommend watching a fun movie while doing this manicure because you will need to kill some time while you wait for your nails to dry. I watched the fabulous Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.

Step 1) Apply the first coat of nail polish like you are painting your nails normally.

Step 2) Wait for the nails to dry and once dry, tightly apply tape to the nail so the only thing exposed is a design you have created, I chose to make triangles.

Step 3) Paint over the exposed area in the other color you have chosen once the tape is securely fastened.

Step 4) Peel the tape off (don’t worry the polish wont come off) once the design from the tape has dried. Apply a clear top coat and you too will have awesomely unique nails.
