Things to Take from Mid-Semester Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

Congratulations, you’re halfway through the fall semester! Midterms have wrapped up and you’re feeling refreshed from your trip back home. If you’re feeling homesick after seeing friends and family, check out these reminders that life on campus is good and the people at home still have your back!

1. Food – A home-cooked meal seems like heaven after two straight months of being in the dining hall, no matter how good the food here is. Even if your parents aren’t the greatest cooks on Earth, you’ve at least visited some of your favorite home town restaurants and pigged out while you have the chance!

2. Family – As much as you probably hate to admit it, you’ve missed them at least a little bit. It’s good to spend some quality time with your parents and siblings (even though the nostalgia of being with them all the time will wore off pretty quickly). Telling them what’s been going on at school and having them update you on what’s been up at home is a good way to have some nice memories as you hit the books again.

3. Home friends – In some cases, fall breaks for different schools can fall (get it?) on the same weekend. Hiting up a Starbucks with a few of your high school gal pals and having a good chat is the perfect way to fuel up for Fall Semester – Part II.

Skyler Van Valkenburgh is a sophomore at Marist College with a major in Communications, a concentration in Journalism, and a minor in Theatre. She loves to sing, dance, and act more than pretty much anything in the world (seriously, ask her friends). Some of her other interests include reading, spending time with her fellow Red Foxes, and copy editing for the Marist student newspaper, The Circle. She has hopes of one day writing for a major newspaper or magazine. Only time will tell how far this collegiette will go! You can follow her on Twitter and Instagram: @skylerleighvv
