16 miles with Spencer Johnson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

Name: Spencer Johnson

Year: Junior

Hometown: Bristol, Connecticut

Major: Secondary Education and History

Here’s a little bit about Spencer Johnson, your campus cutie of the week!

Her Campus: List five words that come to mind if your friends were asked to describe you.

Spencer Johnson: Clever, adventurous, humorous, trustworthy and responsible (according to my roommate/best friend Stefan Morton).

HC: Tell me about your dogs and why you love them so much.

SJ: I have two dogs, Cedar and Murphy.  Cedar is an English Setter and Murphy is a Basset Hound.  What I love about them? Everything!  Cedar is very playful and is very friendly with people.  Murphy is just funny because he’s short with really long ears and has a funny persona about him.  Both him and Cedar love going on walks. Murphy can’t last long but Cedar could walk forever.

HC: As a captain of the Marist cross country team, what is the best part about running for you? And what is the longest run you have ever done?

SJ: The longest run I’ve ever done was probably 16-17 miles for one of our Sunday long runs for cross country practice.  What I love about running is that it’s a universal sport and anyone can do it, and everyone can relate to running in some sort of way.  Running gets my mind off of things, and I find it really fun having good runs with all of my teammates.

HC: If you were a superhero, which one would you be?

SJ: If I was a superhero, I’d like to be either the Flash or Superman.  I’d like to be Flash because he’s fast and as a runner I’d love to be super fast.  However, I’d like to be Superman because flying seems so cool and you could go wherever you want when you want.

HC: If there was one place we could find Spencer Johnson on campus, where would it be?

SJ: Your best bet at finding me somewhere on campus is either at McCann or in the cafeteria since I love food and eating.

HC: Do you have a girlfriend?

SJ: Yes, I have a girlfriend and her name’s Lauren.  Our story is kind of long, but interesting.  We met in sixth grade when we both got into middle school and we had the same classes.  We became friends probably within the first month of meeting and stayed friends.  She only lives a mile up the road from me, but we didn’t meet at first because we had different neighborhood elementary schools.  Once we got to high school, we became a lot closer since we both had the same classes and did rack and field together.  We started dating and have been together since.  She goes to the University of Hartford, so distance is hard but we make it work!  She also does track and field so it’s always exciting to see each other at the same meets.  It seems like I’ve known her forever, but that’s fine with me because I learn new things about her every day.

HC: Can you remember your first date?

SJ: I can’t remember our first date, but when we first started dating we weren’t old enough to drive, so since we lived close we would walk and meet halfway in this park/nature preserve and either walk and talk or sit on this log on top of the hill until it got dark and we had to go home.

HC: What were you for Halloween?

SJ: For Halloween, my whole house dressed up as the cast from The Outsiders (it’s also a book).  Hopefully people got it.
