This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

It’s about that time that college students are applying for summer internships and after applying comes interviews! Many girls are unsure about how to dress for an interview in fear that they will be under or over dressed. A little tip for all you future interns out there: It looks better on you if your boss tells you to dress down a little rather than them telling you to dress a bit nicer. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have! Here are a few must have items that will help you nail the interview and land the job!

Item 1: Simple black pants

A simple pair of black pants can go a long way. You can pair them with almost any type of top and it looks like you really tried in the morning, even if you hit the snooze button a bunch of times. Easy and professional!

Item 2: Pencil skirt

The pencil skirt is a classic interview move. They are flattering and girly but still portray that you are a professional, young woman. Pair this item with a cute pair of flats and you are good to go!

Item 3: Blazers

A blazer can take a normal outfit and automaticall make it look professional. They come in all styles, lengths and colors so you can mix and match them with any type of outfit! They are also perfect if it’s a little cold in the office.

Item 4: Black pumps

A simple pair of comfortable black pumps are key to any outfit. They take any outfit to the next level making it look more professional and stylish than it already was. However, make sure they’re comfortable! You’ll be wearing them all day after all.

There you have it! A few items that might not help you through those nerve wracking interviews, but will help you get through them looking good! All four of these featured items can be found at H&M for a very reasonable price! Good Luck!
