As the air gets colder and the leaves begin to brown, we can feel that spring has ended and it is the beginning of fall. Because the season’s fashion trends are changing with the weather, it is time to update your closet with new warmer, fall-appropriate clothing items.

Matching Sweat Outfits

One popular style this fall, which has emerged in part due to the pandemic, is matching sweat outfits. The color-coordinated sweatshirts and sweatpants are a staple look this fall. The comfort of this style makes it perfect for going to class or a lazy afternoon. It pairs well with a jean or leather overcoat. This look pairs well with sneakers, such as Filas, AF1s, or Nikes, or a basic pair of boots. This is a style look you may have seen worn by Hailee Bieber or any one of the Kardashians.

Monochrome Styling

Another style trend this fall, which you may have seen on Tik Tok already is the monochrome styling. Creating outfits with the same colors, just different tones allow for a cohesive look. This is a style technique that can work with any range of styles. It adds the image of thoughtfulness to your outfit and makes the different tones pop against each other. Staple fall colors that style well with monochrome outfits are warmer colors, such as red, oranges, and yellow. However, this styling method works well with beige and brown tones, another key look for this fall. The dimmer tones pair well with the color change in the leaves. An outfit fashioned using darker tones would go well with an accident piece, like a brightly colored hat, purse, or shoe, as it looks bolder next to the other colors and ties the look together. Depending on the brown tones used, an electric red or baby blue would pair well with the darker shades. The different tones complement each other by bringing out the darkness in the browns and the color in whatever accident piece it’s styled with.

Blazers

Another good fashion trend for October is blazers. Oversized or fitted, blazers are a necessary addition to your closet this fall. Blazers work well because they can be styled with skirts or shorts with a pair of sneakers or flats which allows for a laid-back look. Blazers can also be styled with dress pants or jeans and a heel or pair of boots for an upscale look. This look is ideal for October because it’s gotten cold enough for heavier coats, but we’re still not ready to pull out winter coats. Layed with a long sleeve top, a light pullover sweater, or a hoodie, blazers will keep you warm enough to maintain your style preferences without having to abandon a look for warmth. Blazers were very prominent in the Copenhagen and London Fashion Weeks this year, styled with mostly high-end looks. However, most thrift stores offer a large selection of jackets to choose from.

Turtlenecks

Finally, a fall classic which is a must-have this season– turtlenecks. The best way to style during the colder months is layering, as it allows for more dynamic, versatile looks. A basic turtleneck is a great piece to layer tank tops, sweaters, or vests under. Because of its simplicity, it styles well with almost anything, particularly long layered necklaces, which helps to accentuate your neck.

Fall fashion comes down to layering and print. Finding the right staple pieces which you can wear under or over other basic items is the key to strong fashion this fall. Look for colors that compliment your skin tone but also the environment around you. This is extremely helpful when posing for and taking pictures because it helps you to blend well with the setting, which creates a cohesive image.
